Has SCD ever considered including a Jazz category
Are the dances set in stone for ever or can we live in hope that the producers will shake things up and add contemporary dance or Jazz.

They did include Lindy Hop in at least one series.
It didn't really blow (what's left of) my hair back. |

No thanks. We don't want to encourage this show to become any more like Dancing with the Stars.

That would be a bad idea...would mean stage school alumni would have more experience than the pros!

I'd like to see some jazz or tap, but I think it might be too much to learn in a week or however long they have for more specific steps, certainly in tap...

We already have the Charleston that doesn't come under Latin or ballroom and I think that's enough. The Rock and roll and Lindy hop brief inclusion were naff imo, so I think leave the dances we have for now. How can celeb learners in particular improve if we spread the disciplines too much. Also, some series couples haven't danced all the dances (even if they make the final) so there wouldn't be enough weeks as it is to introduce more dances. There are other shows you can watch if you want to see other dance themes, and you can watch online if you don't have the TV channel. It's bad enough that Anton can't properly teach Latin, think how much much worse it would be if other Pros were not equipped to teach other dance forms (they have to bring in help for the A.T. and in the past the salsa too, and I don't think its productive having to bring in help for the pros for even more dances). |

They should stick to the recognised ballroom and latin dances and play more tunes (of any era) that best suit the dance.
Anton? Jazz Dancing? Do me a favour! |

Strictly is supposed to be about partner dancing; jazz dance is more often or not danced as a single.
Perhaps someone could start a new program called something like Come All Sorts of Dancing(!!!) leaving out the word Strictly, which could include jazz, contemporary, tap, and just about any other dance you can think of along the lines of Dance Fever and SYTYCD (UK) featuring celebs instead of actual dancers. |

Anton? Jazz Dancing? Do me a favour! I agree about recognised dances and music, some traditional jazz might go well with that? |

Are we talking contemporary Jazz here in this thread? Like on DWTS?
I agree about recognised dances and music, some traditional jazz might go well with that? Aimed at no one in particular - please leave my precious Lindy Hop out of this, I beg you! My nerves won't take another (and I don't think any dances outside of those that the pros are trained to do are a good idea really, including Charleston/Salsa/AT - although I grudgingly guess their definition of American Smooth can continue, as the show uses it to mean "ballroom with lifts"). |

The good Charlestons already have traditional Jazz steps in them (the Jazz that is variously termed, Jazz Roots/ Authentic Jazz/Vernacular Jazz/Solo Jazz).

They couldn't do jazz. None of the pros could handle it and I doubt the band could play it well enough.
They already do terrible, terrible salsa and abysmal AT, so I think diversifying simply does not work. Anyway Len would explode. He doesn't understand any dance other than 1960s ballroom. |

I'd love to see some jazz dancing, but not on strictly, I dont like the charleston being used as a dance, I blame Chris Hollins
However what about a spin off show with some of the previous contestants? That I'd like to see. Just as the celebrities are getting better the series finishes give them something else to do

I agree about recognised dances and music, some traditional jazz might go well with that? Trad jazz jiving was comparatively rather sedate, compared with today's style. |

I don't know about jazz but there have been several occasions when I wonder if they've introduced a jizz category.
Sorry. |

I would love that! I really enjoyed that programme with Nigel Lythgoe, naff as it was, that got axed .. now what was it called? 'So you think you can dance', that was it! I wouldn't want to get rid of the ballroom dances, just mix it up a bit more.

Would love to see Jazz and contemporary introduced it is my dance style and loved it on So You Think You Can Dance and Dancing With The Stars.
I love when some of the pros from Strictly incorporate contemporary into their routines as it made them more interesting. |

I wonder if anyone ever settles down to Match of the Day and thinks; "What this programme really needs is a bat and a wicket. Or when watching GBBO thinks "They should get them to make a casserole one week?
