I'm enjoying strictly this year, got some great dancers. However for me this enjoyment is being tainted by the obvious double standards. I just don't get why the comments on Jays and Peters dances on FB are filled with overwhelming positive responses when last year Pixie was absolutely slaughtered for her dance training. Its just bugging me the double standards I have no problem with dance training but I just think its unfair that the female ringers in the past of just been constantly criticized by audiences when Jay has had equal training or even more but is loved by audiences! Please explain!!!!

Natalie Gumede too - didn't take to her myself but there was some unbelievably nasty posts about her because she had training.
You obviously haven't seen the ton of threads on here slating Jay for his previous dance experience then. There are a LOT of people unhappy about it. I however am not one. It doesn't bother me at all and I am getting a little frustrated with people keep putting up threads having a go at the kid. He has done nothing wrong but be a good dancer. Is that a crime on SCD?
There have hardly been a ton of threads, and any thread that does pop up, the overwhelming content is page after page after page of "GET OVER IT!", "WHAT YOU WANT 14 IWAN THOMASES THEN?", "WHY DO YOU HATE JAY?" and "I CAN'T BELIEVE PEOPLE ARE STILL BRINGING THIS UP" often about 12 pages after anyone who actually expressed a negative opinion left the thread. The guy is 53% ahead of his nearest rival on the "favourite couple" poll - the idea he's any sort of hate figure on this forum currently is ludicrous.
I think it would be very naïve to take all criticism of contestants at face value.

Not so much on the threads but more on Facebook, look at all the top comments people are saying 'this boy has no idea how good he is' 'his turns are so perfect'
People are praising him for his amazing technique but do you remember how Natalie and Pixie were criticized for being too good by viewers

She was absolutely hammered, I felt bad for her. There was no denying she was an incredible dancer and I had no problem with the training but personally didn't take too her. But meanwhile I loved Pixie so ringer doesnt bother me it's just how they were treated so bad
I, like so many others, was absolutely entranced by Jay's dancing in the last two weeks. Add that to the fact that he looks like the little puppy I once brought home, and treated like a baby for fifteen years....he can't lose can he?
So why do I feel uncomfortable now for the rest of the series? It really isn't going to be a completely fair competition is it? It's OK to say that Jay has huge natural talent....of course he has, but it's obvious that it has been well nurtured. I read an interview with his mum, and he has ate, slept and breathed dance since he was six. He didn't, as some people have claimed, just have after school training. He has attended prestigious academies full time, then joined the boy band. It's possible that one of the others - Anthony perhaps - could have also had a natural talent, but one that had never been recognised, which could have been discovered and nurtured during the months of Strictly.....and in the true spirit of the competition. Anita is another great example of this I feel.

Thank you I 100% agree with everything you have said, this is exactly how I feel about him I don'tdislike him at all. I just don't see it fair that he wins like it is so so obvious the immense dance training he has had but it is so overlooked by the general audience! I also agree with your comment on Anita I would love to see her win as she is an individual with no dance training and is actually pretty wonderful, she could of had a really good chance of winning.

But there are those threads. There are a few people who aren't happy about him being on the show both here and on the rest of the internet.
However, as you rightly point out, at the moment its clear that the lovers outnumber the haters by a long long number.

Its all down about how they are perceived. Unfortunately (as I liked them both not in a super fan way though) neither Natalie nor Pixie could project her personalities in a way that was endearing. Natalie had Artem and (as much as I am a SUPER fan) their chemistry was a bit off (seemed great professional chemistry not personal, but that is an opinion). Pixie was my favourite last year, but I wasnt that passionate about last year as in previous, I loved her dancing, but once the dance was done I wasnt engaged with her any longer.
I think Jay comes across differently than Denise/Natalie/Pixie. They were obviously trained and gave off the confident, 'Stage School' vibe, whereas Jay comes across as shy and awkward. I think a lot of people didn't know about Jay's previous dance training/experience (or much about him at all), so his jive came as a complete surprise.
Denise's mistake was trying to play down her experience. Natalie had the technical ability, but not the likeability. I think that with Pixie, complacency came into play later on in the competition.

It really is bizarre. I absolutely loved Pixie and her training didn't bother me...I knew she wouldn't win but enjoyed watching her every week. The media attack on her was bonkers, same with Natalie.
Jay has seemed to escape with minimal damage, despite receiving more training than the average stage school pupil.

BII there is media attack with him too, but not as much. Caroline Flack had even professional experience (and had received ballroom and latin classes from pros) and she went on even with more minimal damage than Jay.
Ultimately, its whether people warm up to the celebrities with dancing training or not.

I think it is absolutely in order to mark for dance style content. And it is because it is an entertainment show that I think this. It is an entertainment show but one that is devised around ballroom dancing. Without that it has no integrity and is much like the other show such as the one where Ashley Banjo is a judge or BGT or whatever. Every show needs a structure and a reason for being. In the case of SCD it is ballroom and Latin dance. If you take out the ballroom the show loses its identity and integrity and becomes a bunch of people doing random dancing week on week.

I don't think it's a double standard as I don't think the situations are parallel.
Some have been mocked because of their attempts to fudge their training and others because of their attempts to persuade people it is a disadvantage - and there one of those nights year.
The other thing is that if you have lots of dance experience you should be judged more stringently and should produce a great dance that is undeniably ahead of the pack - if you also have talent.

In the end viewers will vote for who they like best, (or dislike least) regardless of the contestants' background or ability.
Having said that, those who vote will likely be just a percentage of people who watch the programme. I've watched pretty much every programme of every series and have never voted for anyone.
It doesn't bother me who wins, I just hope to continue to see an entertaining TV programme for the rest of the series.

But let us remember who most notably Pixie and Natalie peformed dances in their years that were worth significantly higher marks than what they got because they were so stringently scored I.E Natalies Viennese Waltz actually pretty much all her dances and Pixies Paso, Rhumba and Samba.
The panel was so much harder on them knowing they would probably of topped thr ladder each week if they actually judged on who did the best technical dance. But with Jay I think it seems he is getting off easier judges are happy to pull out 10s in week 3 and most comments are saying that they never expected it from him. But I remember on Pixies posts all the comments would be 'well what do you expect she's a trained dancer'

Jeez, it's week 3 people, you have potentially another 10ish weeks to moan away to your hearts content to get it to Denise or Natalie levels of vitriol, but pace yourself, its a long way to go.

Think you may be remembering what you want to remember hun. Kara got under marked imo and it's one of the reasons she won, again imo, it incentivised people to pick up the phone when they thought she'd been undermarked, or as many viewed it the judges picking on Kara & Artem.
This show is not and never will be purely about dancing or the level of the dance. It's about do the public like the celeb, or the partnership, or the pro, or a million little intangible things, only one of which is did they dance it technically very well.
