I know they don't, and I'm not blaming the couples, I feel sorry for them.

I was just saying that I'm pleased that this couple has suitable music so that Carol has a bit of a chance to dance as well as she can.
well the unsuitable music will be fitted into the dance.

Georgia's quickstep could be good if the music is fitted into the dance ( which i think it will be).

Katie and Anton's Viennese Waltz's song If i can dream ( also way too slow for VW, maybe a song for a normal waltz).

Kirsty has the shortest straw with a Paso to U2, she's technically not so good in her footwork and the song beautiful day isn't a Paso Doble song.

I've just listened to it and while the melody seems to be sung quite slowly the actual rhythm and tempo of it is fine.

okay

and will you cheer for Georgia?

i know the song is not typical QS, but maybe she could make a fun dance out of it, i hope with lots QS content in it.

so fingers crossed for her and every couple and Good Luck.

Katie Kirsty and Georgia all are wearing similar shoes , I wonder if Strictly supplies them with practice shoes ? Or are these the ones they'll wear on the night ?
They all seem to be doing OK . Kirsty looks a bit baffled , but I now realise that it's her default mode and no doubt she'll shock us all this week by being fabulous .
I'm very impressed with lovely wee Daniel . He's actually taking this very seriously and shaping up nicely , literally (I think he has lost weight already ). His first dance nerves seem a thing of the past .
Anita looks amazing . I could watch her practising all night . She looks so focused and lithe and still finds time for humour .
Peter looks very very tired and as baffled as Kirsty there .He has a baby at home so I suppose his nights might get interrupted .Hopefully he too smashes it on the night .
Jeremy looks great too . Thankfully his dance is another smiley one so his cheesy grin won't grate on the judges on saturday . By the time he gets a serious dance he should have learned to use a poker face .Love his dance shoes , nice cuban heels, just what tiny Jeremy needs . Not .
Kanton look great . This dance will suit them to a tee, graceful and serene and romantic .

For me, I think Georgia's looks the most promising this week. Jay will probably score highly too (those pivots!). Week of the quickstep, methinks.

Again, a few of those are only marking the dance.

But it will be very interesting at the top as Jamelia and Georgia also look very good. Might be interesting to see who comes 7th or 8th on the leaderboard, as that might be a tricky place to be. Purely based on the footage, that is where Peter might end up (assuming he is not overscored by the Strictly judges).

Should be a Scottish dance-off (Daniel is too popular), but I doubt that will happen (and lol at Brendan trying to do a Paso almost completely in hold ).

Carol and Pasha will Paso to Trad’s Espana Cani

I never thought I'd be so gutted to see Espana Cani used on strictly.
me too - i love this music

It is a pity when a real, traditional song is squandered on a celeb who is destined to destroy a dance.

i much prefer traditional music for the paso - i feel mean saying this but its wasted on carol

can you imagine what kevin and kellie could do with this music - kevin is brilliant at the paso and kellie is really good, definitely good enough (and more) to do it justice imo

Jeremy's shoes look as though they are the normal patent ballroom shoes that men wear. The heel will only be a normal height, rather than cuban.
SCD will certainly provide shoes, not sure of the brand, but it will be one of the large dance suppliers, DSI, International, Freed or Supadance I would expect.
From this training clip, I was most impressed with Anita, at this stage this samba looks really promising, and I think by Saturday it will be amazing.
Couldn't see too much of what Jay was doing as he is dancing solo, but I hope the pivots that I saw earlier have improved, as they looked really shocking. His posture and topline will need masses of work as QS is a hard dance to pull off and make look good. Learning of the steps is the easy part.
I was not impressed with Georgia so far. I saw a couple of balance issues, her pendulums are not done well, posture, topline an head need attention ( I know some will say that this is only practice, but you have to pay attention to every detail even when you learn / practice) and she is not tansfering her weight between steps she is not using her own legs, no foot to floor pressure. Giovanni looks as though he is carrying her into position, That said this was early in the week, so hopefully will be fine by Saturday.

Thanks for the informative review.

DSI seem to be supplying the shoes.

Really? I've just watched the training vid twice and think G&G are set to pull off a great QS? Am I missing summat?

Just my own thoughts, but I am aware that this VT was early on in the week and I am certain it will be much improved by tomorrow.
QS - and I don't mean a basic QS - is quite hard to pull off and look good, to dance it well. If you don't know what you are looking for, you can easily be impressed with quick foot work and the various crowd pleasing steps that they do. But is is important to maintain a calm relaxed ( toned but not stiff) topline, maintain your poise and stay connected as much as you can to your partner. It has to be incredibly soft in the legs and knees, and as you advance, you use your ankles to great advantage. The QS must be smooth and plenty of swing, as it is a swing dance. It is very important in any dance to understand the importance of the standing leg and to use it to move to the next step. Responsible for maintaining your own balance and not letting any movement you do, going forward or back, to affect your top. From the VT footage, Georgia is not doing this, but perhaps she at the time, was unsure of the steps.

That's interesting to read. Sorry for a bit of an off topic question but, my favourite QS was Aliona and Harry's - was that a technically good one or just a crowd pleaser?

Wow, thanks Jennifer, that's loads I've learnt! I'm no expert, but you sound like you dance or teach? You're so right that often I think I'm watching a great dance and then the judges rip it apart (Georgia's week 2 dance looked fab to me but then scored 25)

I need to watch it again ( Harry/Aliona) to make an informed comment, but from memory Harry had an exceptional topline, and I do recall that it was a very good QS. Good choreo too, danced very well.

I liked her Jive but not her " not a rumba" rumba.

Related to Jennifer's comment, although not the pendulums. The problem I see with a lot of the female celebs is that they don't lower properly or use their ankles and all parts of their feet. This doesn't appear to be so apparent in male celebs (although there are always exceptions). I think this is a problem associated with dancing in heels. It is more difficult to do the forward and backwards walks initially (with proper technique). It took me some time before I moved to ballroom shoes with proper heel.

Some dodgy topline stuff going on in that video with the various couples.

Hi Ann, I feel that the lady celebs ( as beginners) wear too high a heel for ballroom resulting in a clunky effect when they dance forward to do heel leads, rather than the shoe "purring" along the floor. I feel also that to try to please Len they clunk the heel down to show they are doing a heel lead when this is not neccessary at all. Its quite ugly. But they are learning of course. ( Daresay I did the same way back when)

Yeah, I agree with all of that. I used to clunk too. I still have my moments!

Pasha and Carol made me laugh though. (But I know her giggling annoys some people). However looking directly into your partner's face, in a supposedly passionate moment, can be quite disconcerting. Spanish drag does it for me in Tango.
