Just checked there thanks. I was hoping Vodafone would do a similar deal. Hate switching and having to transfer my number. Looks like Talk Mobile for me.

I was about to suggest Talk Mobile.
Best way to stay on Vodafone I would have thought.

I thought that they are being forced to move to o2 soon?

As you have to PAC out, surly it makes no difference which network you want to go to.

Talkmobile currently have 1gb of data, 1000 minutes and 5000 texts for £7.50 a month if you sign up for a year.

Be aware it's a fairly pricey 10p a meg and a disgusting 40p a min if you go over. And don't even *think* about it if you roam outside the EU

If you do go for a Pay Monthly Talk Mobile deal make sure you set a data limit in your phone's settings menu so you don't go over. Talk Mobile, like Vodafone, still don't cap your data automatically. Incredibly unethical compared to EE, Three and O2 who do cap data. I imagine that people who do go over their data allowances with Vodafone and Talk Mobile make up the vast majority of their profits.

What I don't understand here is why are Vodafone doing this? As surely this could kill their cystomer base if it becomes well known? Do they offer 4g access as well?

The process are decent for the bundles so long as like you say, you don't go over.

Maybe they think it's a good idea to have a monopoly on service in areas where they have the best signal. The MVNOs are generally a lot cheaper than Vodafone's extortionate prices, killing the cheaper alternatives appears to be their way of dealing with competition.
