Had a call earlier on my 3 mobile from a company calling itself ' mobile communications ' working for three uk. The nice man was offering lots of tempting things like, new nokia upgrade, 12 months free??!!!

I asked him how he got my number and he said 3 uk gave them lists of handsets on threepay and that they are trying to convert us all into contracts on behalf of three?

I declined his offers and asked not to call me again. I called 3 and as usual they are clueless, and have no idea who this company is, I even prompted the rep to ask me for the number which took about 15 attempts for her to get right much to the amusement of the rest of the passengers on the no. 13 bus!

The number they called from was a landline in Wales and goes like this 02920 240069. Strange that they would call from an unheld number, but when calling it, it just rings forever.
How did this company get my number, as I've never entered it online anywhere.Period.

I'm not bothered about the cold call, just the fact three are looking likely suspects for passing on/selling my details.
3 must have given it to them? And who are they? Anyone else had this?

I had something similar about 6 months ago while on the T-Mobile network. When I spoke to them to see if this was genuine, they told me that they use various marketing companies for this sort of thing, although they couldnt specify a particular one.

It may not have been 3 passing on your details. Some of these less than legitimate companies use brute force to find working numbers. As the first five digits of your number are (I assume) for the 3 network they can start their social engineering from there.

its funny that they say they are working on behalf of three as three dont supply nokia handsets(appart from the 7600 that is no longer stocked) only thrid partys supply the nokia eg carphone warehouse

Thanks guys. Thought this may be a scam. Strangest thing is the landline no. being visible & coming from Wales.
Skipraider, they must have 'other' offices in Brum then aswell.
Thats if their one & the same, more than likely are, just a variation on the name.
brundles, I thought maybe thats how they did it.

Has anyone else tried calling that number? If not try it, see what you get.

I'm so glad of the Google search engine - allowing me to find out exactly what this pestering from an anonymous Welsh number was.

Yes, I've had the same problem. When I rang back no one answered. Thankfully when I answered my phone in the first place they never tried to sell me anything or dupe me into something; they just hung up. It's a nuisance, though, and people need to know about this.

So 3's not doing anything about it?

Not really. They were supposed to call me back yesterday, still waiting.
Cant be bothered to waste my time calling them again.
At least I know someone else has heard of this. Do you remember if it was the same number I posted?

The same outfit phoned several hundred people at our business a few weeks ago and gave some clearly fake contact details. I couldn't find out exactly who they were, but they gave their name as "Mobile Communications" along with a fake address.
