Hi.
Can anyone recommend a product that has worked for them please? I am so fed up of my nails peeling. Over the last year I have tried:
Nail Envy
Nailtiques No. 2
All Sally Henson products (all equally pants)
Seche Rebuild

I take Biotin, vitaminb mix and collagen too.

Thanks in advance

Nail Envy has made my nails strong again. Are you using it correctly? I put two coats on first, then the colour, then the following day another coat of Nail Envy. I would persevere with it. I have also stopped using liquid soap and have gone back to soap bars. I am wondering if there is something in the liquid soap that destroys the nails as I never had a problem before using it.

Another vote here for Nail Envy Original and also Mavala Nail hardener. It's really does work.

If all the above fails, which it very much sounds like it has, up your B vitamins. I take a daily Berrocca and my nails grow fast and have strengthened significantly.

Quick edit. Just seen you're already doing the B vitamins.

Do you use a quality glass nail file? Metal and emery can leave burrs which eventually split the nail when water gets in?

Have a read of Loodie Loodie Loodie nail blog. She may have some suggestions.

Nail Envy ruined my nails and actually made them worse than they were before.

I wouldn't bother with putting stuff on your nails. Mine go through cycles of being strong, then splitting. Try eating a couple of jelly cubes a day (that was an old remedy from my childhood) and ensure you have a good diet. As mentioned above I've heard Berroca (I take the much cheaper Aldi equivalent) is also good.

Really wow, not heard that one. Will give it a go thanks, also I have just read it could be down to be being iron deficient.

Thank you for that, yes I take tonnes of vitamins to see if they make a difference as I have an auto immune disease.

I have always used emery boards as I thought they did the least damage as long as you used them in one direction only? I will buy a glass one and see if that helps.

I am going to go have a read of that blog , many thanks

You're welcome. I also have an auto immune disease and mine were just like yours and somewhere along the line I've managed to transform them.

Seriously try a Leighton Denny Crystal nail file. They are expensive (I bought the smaller size £12.50) but last forever. When filing they polish and seal the filed edge until it shines. No water can get in and it doesn't heat up and split the filed edge.

my granny used to eat a cube of raw jelly for her nails ever day - they were like rocks!

Thanks again. I'm going to Boots after work to see if I can find one

Have a look at the Mavala nail hardener too. Mine were so thin and peeling they would bend but after using it they are thicker and rock hard.

I started off by buying the 2 ml just in case it was a load of rubbish. It's not. It lasted me 18 months too! It's just a thin blue water that you paint only of the whites of your nail. Really miraculous stuff. Highly recommended.

Easiest solution (and cheapest) is to regularly buff your nails with a proper chamois leather pad.

My advice would be to stop putting stuff on your nails, you'll make the situation worse. It's what goes into your body that counts.

I couldn't agree more. I bought the exact same nail file and it has worked wonders. My nails have gone from all of them splitting every single time, to growing long and not splitting. I highly, highly recommend this file.

Ok now this may sound odd but here goes. Owning horses you have to care for their feet and their feet are the same make up as our nails. Horses with poor feet need a lot of tender loving care and most owners apply a substance called biotin. Not the pills to swallow but it is applied by your fingers and rubbing it on to their feet it gives the hooves strengths and stops them splitting Miraculously it also helps our nails and gives them tremendous strength and makes them extremely healthy don't get me wrong it's expensive but one small tin would probably last over a year

Do you have a name or link for the biotin, all i can find are supplements and powders?

Beware. Biotin causes spots / acne is some people.

How long did it take for your nails to improve after starting to use the Leighton Denny Crystal file? After reading positve reviews here and elsewhere I got one just before Christmas, but haven't seen any improvements yet...I'm hoping I just need to be a bit more patient!

Pretty much instantly. I had those annoying splits where the layers of the nail at the tip separate.

Once I'd (gently) filed to below those splits I was fine. Use it in conjunction with the Mavala Nail Hardener. My nails are thick and strong now. Transformed them.

Berocca sorted out my sister's for the first time ever. Mine have always been strong but after taking the odd Berocca they're growing faster than before. Odd but true. Savers is the cheapest high street outlet that I know of and you can bulk buy on Amazon if that works. You get the added benefit of a ton of Vit C and Vit B, if you need it.
