Anyone notice what's happening in the background or what's said quietly?

I was there last night (I have been tangentially involved with the show on and off for a few years) There was nobody gesturing to the audience to get up that I saw. The side opposite to the judges is mostly for 'connections'. People who have an investment in the show and the dancers (emotional or otherwise).

There is nobody in the studio who instructs people to give standing ovations despite what many people on this forum think. In fact at Television Centre whole sections from the audience are actively told not to stand because of the noise or blocking camera shots.

One of the reasons that sometimes the reception to the dances in the studio are difference to that which viewers might expect is the way the performance is put together. Some routines just work better when viewed in the studio than on TV. the better pros know how to choreograph well for the cameras.
I was also there last night and no one was told to stand or gestured to that I saw.

the reactions are all spontaneous on the view of the crowd that is there.

Some standing Ovations were unanimous as in people jumped up altogether, some were more rippling, like where people stand up because other people are.

Not been there but if people start standing up then it seems logical to encourage others to join in rather than let it drag out for many minutes as more and more people decide to join in. That might be all right for people there but not good to watch at home.

From I read, it is done in all radio and TV productions where people encourage applause or standing up.

if people like it they give a standing ovation, well my standing ovations were for Georgia, Helen, Jay and Jeremy ( because he's so funny)

Love Jay and Aliona's exchange at the end of their dance. She pumps the air and Jays asks whether it was good (Aliona obviously says yes) and Jay says "do you promise?"

Adorable!

I did love the fact that Kevin was jumping up and down for Karen and Jeremy. Plus I absolutely loved their reaction to Craig's 4!

When I was there last year, we were actively encouraged to cheer, clap and generally make noise when the dancers were on the floor and to boo, hiss, whatever when the judges said that they didn't like a particular performance.

It's all a bit of a pantomime int that respect.

One more thing I noticed while Claudia was interviewing jay . When she asked him something to the effect of "what more do the judges want from him" and Jay said I guess he shouldn't rely on the costumes and make-up so much and act more, Aliona was vigorously shaking her head while he was saying that .... ( aka I don't agree with that ) ..love her

When they got a whole 4 from Craig, Karen wagging Claudia's cat's tail vigorously from side to side.

Then later on Claudia's cat's tail almost catching Natalie.

When they were doing the t&Cs

Natalie and Aliona were trying to put the knight off by tapping his armour and tickling his neck.

Sort of Mexican Wave?
If some stand, others follow?

Pretty sure I don't imagine it, but every week ( to me!) Jeremy and karen get the loudest cheer when they are all introduced - I like that

From a viewers point of view, it does seem like there are fewer standing ovations this year.

I do wish the clapping along wasn't just off the beat.

Did you see Ian and Anton playing the fool in the background of during the introductions to today's ITT?

Anton reached across and pinched Ian whilst Ian was being introduced, then you could see them on the screen whilst Zoe was talking - where Ian retaliated.

Kellie elbowing her way to the front in every Clauditorium section was increasingly comical - especially when it seemed that Kristina was doing her utmost to block her. They appeared to exchange words at one point - probably entirely non-related to the elbowing issue, of course. I think she almost pushed Oti over at one point too. Dial it down a notch, love. We know you're there.

She also managed to get herself in the middle on the stage at the very start of the show. I suspect she practises these move.

I did notice her bump into someone when she was very determinedly moving to the middle where she would be seen. Hadn't noticed her do that before. I always look at Claudia and whoever she's talking too so don't tend to notice the others unless they are right next to them. That was pretty unmissable though. I'm not sure what the point of doing that is though?

I saw her looking very stony faced during Georgia's chat with Claudia.

She was receiving medical attention after accidentally coming between Kellie and the camera

(Joking aside, she seemed upset following Len's comments, so perhaps she went off for a bit of private time. It must be grim having to stand there with a rictus grin on your face when you just want to slope off, have a cry/rant, then down six gins)

I thought Helen looked really distressed tonight - possibly tearful (or flu-infested). She forced a smile when she realised she was in shot.

I noticed her looking down tonight too. Wish I'd thrown a vote her way now, to be honest.

Just after Claudia announced voting was open, Janette jumped up on a bench behind Jay, and he turned around and picked her up for a twirl.

Anita and Gleb hip bumping (I think that's how you'd describe it!) each other after Georgia's scores.
