Also , although I haven't played it back as busy day today, Bruno said in Italian that they were fantastic/excellent not brave (siete bravi) and that they plural were like 'ballerinas' not just giorgia, which is why when giovanni was translating he knew bruno had said 'they' were this and that, but he didnt want to draw attention to himself, so he said when translating 'can i say 'SHE is' ....

Apols if seems like I'm being a smart arse. But saying they were 'brave ' is quite different to fantastic/outstanding/excellent. 'Brave' could have a negative subtext whereas 'bravi' doesn't have that. It was a straight compliment to them both

I like hearing occasional bursts of italian on the show and enjoyed hearing from giovanni's family. A proper clan.

Ps ballerini probably means something like professional dancers rather than just 'ballerina' as we understand it in english. Maybe someone else can clarify that ?

Afraid not. As I posted before the ending is not CHAY but TCHE.

Ballerino is Italian for "dancer" and relates to ballroom dancers - ballerino, ballerini etc. - not just to female ballet dancers.

I'm going to watch it again, not that is an unpleasant task, mind you

The problem is the applause drowning the speech, and also Tess trying to moderate things and speaking over others. Not to mention I'm also partially deaf which is not a very good combo after all :s

Errr I have worked in Italy for 18 years and live in my home there for four months every summer????? Have never heard your suggested pronunciation with 'che' instead of 'chay' and have lived in North and South Italy. I know what youean by the 't' being inserted but it is chay on the end (as an english person would pronounce that) not che. Was trying to be helpful not offend as Monaogg had it great. Perhaps just asd the T in the middle.

Precisely, you cannot pronounce as an English person would. My mother's family are Italian so I'm really used to names and surnames pronunciation, etc

What Bruno says, "Guarda guarda, che brava, che belli - then laughter/applause comes in and I can only guess he's saying something about them being top dancers, hence "ballerini" (plural)

I can only hear those with a TCHE at the end and not a CHAY, but people hear things differently all the time

I'm going to call my cousin and ask her to watch it, so we can lay this to rest

Im not sure it is always a problem having partial deafbess where bruno is cncerned mind you! He seems to be in more than full throttle this year!!!!😁😁😁

Did you /anyone else notice how pee'd off Darcy looked when Bruno had already given his feedback re Jay's AT and then Craig disagreed with one small point and Bruno in effect 'grabbed the mike' to come back. Taking up some of Darcy's time? Her body language said it all. She was tapping her fingers in the table at one point!

If anyone is as bothered by the pronunciation as me and Vic's mum would appear to be (which I doubt!) this seems a great tool with audio of native italian speakers saying the words felice and pernice. Much easier to listen to it. It is definitive. Thanks for the link.

We're a right pair of old (in my case) farts arguing about pronunciation
I can't help it that the discussion is related to the day job, that's why I got a bit animated

Has anyone managed to get what Tristan said to Jamelia in his 'pep talk' as they came up to the clauditorium? I heard 'keep smiling' or WTTE but didnt get the rest

When was that? I must have missed it. I do tend to drift off during the judges though.

I heard "keep smiling" as well, not sure about the rest.
It's interesting that you quite often hear Tristan; I heard him say something like "Don't worry about it" at the end of the dance yesterday, which made me groan, as he is alerting everyone to the fact that something must have gone wrong!
I've sometimes wondered if he has a much louder voice than the other professionals!

Peter desperately tapping his shoulder for Jeanette to hold his hand then trying the other side when she was ignoring him!

Just been watching the very end of last week's Saturday night's show as the phone lines open.

Poor Helen looking so worried but trying to smile

Peter nipping round to help hand out the pizza

Janette asking Jay to lift her so she could see over everyone

Just bumping this up because it's such an interesting thread. I realise everybody heard Jay's apology after his dance, so presumably their mics are turned on as soon as they finish dancing? Geovanny giving Georgia a tap on the bottom after their dance.
