Seeing Abbey Clancy shocking chacha in week 2 to seeing her dance her samba in week 11....that progress is the definition of " journey".
She's one of the biggest improvement that this show ever had IMO.
I was thinking Abbey Clancy, but her week 1 Waltz already looked pretty accomplished. You're right about her Latin though, that was a huge step up by the latter stages of her series.

Which Jay thread? There are 14,000 of them.
Sorry, I mean the one with him visiting his old school. Every comment is a crap joke about him being a ringer.

Yeah mostly her latin. She was so bad in week 2.

Definitely, you could see how stuck in her head she was, counting her steps

Matt Dawson got 19 wk1 and 38 in the final.
Gethin went from 22 in wk1 to 39 in wk9.
And Chris Hollins never got more than 30 until week 8.
agree with this, and I still look at Matt's dances now, so for me they have sustained the test of time

agree with the comments about Mark Wright, the foxtrot was a thing of beauty

For the girls I remember Zoe Ball and Carol Smillie in the same series improving dramatically as the weeks went on

Chris Hollins.

Scored 26 in his first dance and in the final scored the highest score in Strictly history - 50 - making him the best, most improved dancer on Strictly - EVER!

Julian Clary went from being a complete nervous wreck to an Officer and a Gentleman in the final. I still have him down as the first 'journey' contestant
aggs we really have to stop agreeing so much Julian is definitely my most improved as well. He absolutely blossomed the more the show went on and in the days when they actually learnt a "proper" dance routine.

Michael Vaughan (my favorite contestant ever!) is my vote for most improved. But honorable mentions go to Matt Dawson and Zoe Ball.

Hmm .. but by the Christmas special that year the judges were saying he was pretty rubbish. You can't really judge by the final because .. especially back then .. they more or less danced their fave routines. He didn't re-dance the tango .. which is the only way of knowing if he had improved on that first dance. The most that could be said was that he went from a week 8 foxtrot - 34 to a week 14 foxtrot - 37 but it dropped to 33 in the Christmas special .. so he really didn't improve at all.

Zoe Ball? She holds the record for the highest week 1 score ever!

Abbey's scores for the first 5 weeks were 32, 30, 28, 35 and 35. She definitely improved, but she was never bad to begin with. Her first week's score would have had her top of the leader board this series as well as her own. Although they do seem to be marking lower this series.

Topping the leaderboard in week 1 to winning doesn't seem like much of a journey to me.

I later specified what I meant. ...she mostly improved in the Latin.

Still not really a massive improvement though - her lowest score was 28! Never in danger of being seen as a duffer.

And I thought her later Latin scores were overhyped.

Comparing Harry Judd's week 2 foxtrot to his week whatever quickstep and viennese waltz is a stunning improvement. He was never truly ~bad - but it's still a huge huge improvement imo. You don't have to start from nothing to see an improvement. I truly enjoy watching his VW and quickstep and find myself thinking "I want to dance with that guy!" which I never think about the celebs.

Nice to see all the different opinions on who improved most...but there's no need to disparage other peoples' choices.

And I'm giving mine in response.

Anyway, in my opinion (probably should state that just in case someone, for some reason, thinks I'm posting someone else's opinion under my name), there seem to be three categories:
Start off rubbish, get a bit better.
Start off well, get a bit better, make it to the end.
Start off ok, maybe have one 'breakthrough' dance, then go back to being in the middle of the pack.

Yes Miss.

Lisa Snowdon for me, her "journey" was a joy to watch.

Does he really hold that record ?
I loved Natalie and Ricky but I was so happy when Team Cola Won

I agree with you, plus a lot of them only improved in Latin or ballroom, not both, it was usually ballroom though. Michael Vaughan, for example, improved greatly in ballroom, was terrible in Latin, but so terrible it was funny.
