I liked Dan Callaghan, the guy who was booted out

He reminded me of Paul McCartney a bit.

He seemed far more intelligent once he got going (speaking his mind in the boardroom) than Lord Sugar gave him credit for.

And Dan did have a point. Just because he can't sell fish, doesn't mean he wouldn't make a good business partner.

Some of that lot in the winning team got away scot-free. Some of them looked like real shirkers. I saw faces at the end of the programme who managed to hide away while the fish selling was going on.

I am not sure where you saw his 'intelligence'. All he said was that he cant do anything except run an online business. LS said at the beginning how he started that he did everything. That is the kind of person he wants, who can do everything. It was because of him they lost because it took him too long to 'add' up. The name of this game or task is to be quick. It's not difficult to sell food to hungry people, the lady managed very well and he couldnt sell a thing. Saying 'I cant' is not what LS is looking for. His attitude at the sales was all wrong.

Well, to be fair, neither of us can really judge as he wasn't given a chance.

What about some of the no-marks on the winning team who slipped under the radar but managed to stay.

That's what I thought. There was a couple in their team who appeared to do absolutely nothing at all.
I liked Dan too. I thought he had the type of character who would be there for a while at least. A bit of a eccentric Tom type character.

Seriously, it's amazing how nature has managed to cram so much haplessness into a single individual.

We never did find out who decided these 'specifications', the ones Brett had apparently signed up to in blood but that ultimately proved so ruinous ...

My money's on Dan.

I agree with OP, I would have liked to have seen how someone like Dan would approach the advertisement task, meanwhile April messed up again tonight by casting the two young women for the billboard...advertising a product for 50+ year old.

Think April should have gone over Dan.

I agree with ShotDownInFlame - I thought April should have gone and Dan should have stayed. Dan came over really well on the Fired programme, thanks to Jack's calm and genuine questions which allowed Dan to show us why he was selected as a candidate in the first place.

Definitely agree.

Thought that April was a disaster area in both tasks. She is absolutely unwilling to listen to anyone else's opinion.

I think that Dan would have proved himself to be a worthy candidate - but once again, someone who's not an obnoxious loudmouth is given the push because LS wants gobshite candidates rather than intelligent ones.

I only watch this programme now for its pantomime value, rather than for what it originally was.

In my view it was lost in the boardroom. When Lord Sugar asks you, "Who should I fire?", you need to have an answer other than yourself. Saying, "I don't know" is suicidal.

If it wasn't for that, I think Brett should have gone. He's the sort of person who'd drive over a cliff if his GPS told him to.

April probably has a decent business proposal.
Or they think that she might make a very controversial character during the series.
Because as we know the tasks don't seem to mean in a lot when it comes down to who Alan Sugar chooses to win the series.
He will fire somebody one week for a certain reason, then the next time another candidate is guilty of exactly the same thing it's suddenly not a problem for him.

There may be some truth to that. After Sugar had asked him what he is good at, it was probably a last chance saloon opportunity for Dan to demonstrate that being decisive is something which he's good at. He perhaps only needed to show something, anything at all.

I suppose that Dan might have thought that he knew full well that others in his team probably did less than he did so he felt secure in the fact that he wasn't alone in the 'do nothing' stakes, and that he had at least tried to do something.
However his mistake was that in the moment it was him in the boardroom and not others who were still in the house who Sugar may well get rid of later as well anyway.

The army guy showed a lack of imagination and made a bit of a balls up, but he probably demonstrated to Sugar that he displayed leadership skills and some fortitude. Which was probably more than what Dan showed, and which Alan Sugar may have noted

But then, what about Bilyana in Series 8? She would have made a controversial character in the series, and given her obvious intelligence probably had a very strong business plan. Regardless, she was fired in the first week.

He has his biases. One of them is that he doesn't like to fire the team leader. He was explicit about that this time: he said the only reason he didn't fire April is that she volunteered to be team leader in the first task. Most other candidates see it as a poisoned chalice and hold back (cf, the men's team), but if anything it gives you an advantage to be leader so early.

When a team leader does get fired, it's usually because they screwed up very badly. As with Aisha: she made all the decisions, pretty much every decision she made was wrong, and she got it wrong despite her team mates pointing out she was wrong at the time. Bringing Vana back into the boardroom was the final straw. It not only reduced her odds from 2:1 to 1:1, it showed she still didn't understand why she'd failed the task.

I think he's ok too, but feel he was in the wrong show, as LS wants an all - rounder, and he doesn't fit that mould. Mind you don't think any of the candidates has the attributes LS wants, so he'll have to go for 2nd best.

Spot on, Brett couldn't think outside the box.

They could have kept him around at least a few more eps. At least he had some character and spark; it sounds weird but I feel like I've seen the black supermodel who makes terrible decissions and mindless army-"just following specifications" bloke types way too many times on this and other reality shows.

He reminded me of Ollie in 'The Thick of It'. Looking at his career background shows he's done a similar job working for an MEP at the European Parliament.
