Robert Sugden and his interactions with the villiagers is weak...
Diane Sugden - His relationship with Diane confuses me. Does he even care about her? She obviously loves him even if she doesn't have much of a bond with him.
Victoria Barton - They rarely share a scene and they don't seem close at all. Under explored isn't the word! Andy Sugden - Hates him because he killed his adopted mum Sarah Sugden and was favoured by their dad Jack Sugden? Since teenagers they haven't got on, it is tiresome now. Bernice Blackstock, Gabby Thomas and Eric Pollard - Uncle through marriage, step niece and step sister. One minute their family then they aren't. Bernice knowing how to "handle Robert" was weird. They never interact. Same with Gabby. The Whites - Him and Laclhan White have been wasted. Robert didn't seem to care about his feelings at all. Him and Chrissie White aren't suited at all and Lawerence is underused and full of empty threats. Jack Sugden, Sarah Sugden and Debbie Dingle - Pretty sure they haven't shared one scene. I would like Robert and Sarah scenes, would anyone else? Wife - Chrissie Sugden Step Son - Lachlan White Step Mum - Diane Sugden Half Sister - Victoria Barton Adopted Brother - Andy Sugden Step Sister - Bernice Blackstock Step Niece - Gabby Thomas Adopted Nephew - Jack Sugden Adopted Niece - Sarah Sugden Brother - In - Law - Adam Barton Father - In - Law - Lawrence White Step Uncle through Marriage - Eric Pollard |

I think Robert's relationship with Victoria was effectively explored in the aftermath of running Ashley over.

I agree with the OP, other than Aaron, Andy and the Whites his relationships with the other characters is weak. Were Robert and Diane ever that close? Also I find it hard to believe that Victoria would be so protective and supportive of him after the way he threatened and intimidated her when she was a child after she caught him and Katie going at it.

I don't agree, if you've watched since the new Robert came back, you'll know he's interacted with most of those characters

I agree. I don't want to have to use my imagination to fill in the gaps all the time. Less beatings for Rob, more brews and chats!

to be honest you could write up a list like this for just about every character in Emmerdale these days.

I think they' ve got carried away with Robron to the exclusion of all else. But Robert getting beaten is quite funny
![]() ![]() I agree they haven't worked hard enough to make the Sugdens work as a family though. I always just think of Robert as part of the Whites. He's really good with Andy, their scenes are gold usually, but we definitely needed more with Diane and Victoria, just talking about what's gone on in his life since he left. Or even interacting with Andy's kids. It makes it feel more real. |

![]() Even with Rob and Aaron though they never had any talks about Jackson as well as other things. All of sudden they'll start talking about things you've never heard them mention before and it all seems a bit odd. But it's the same with others. Although I think Marlon and Laurel's recent storyline was well done.

And if you take it to the extreme of Robert Sugden being the man in question (the most dislikeable bloke in the dales) then it's understandable that he doesn't have much of a bond with many people. |

As is true of people in real life. Outside of my close family (parents, grandparents, uncles / aunties / first cousins) I don't know or interact with many of my family at all really.

It is a shame that Robert and Victoria aren' t closer. It would be nice given that they' ve stayed in contact and they do have a blood relationship ( although that doesn' t always count for much) to seem try to bond. She seems to care about him but he doesn' t show much interest in her.
