Yeah, I thought it was stupid for Aisha to sideline Charleine in the way she did; she really should have had an active part in both branding and in the pitch but she was put in a position where she couldn't contribute much. Given she understands the market clearly, she would have had good input and would have done an enthusiastic pitch. It seemed that she had a lot of opinions but was one of the extras like April and Elle that had very little input to the task from what was shown.

Watching the programme and the broad smile that appeared on Charleine's face, you could see the task was just what she wanted. Obviously what she does doesn't make her qualified, however it was very naive and very playground of Aisha to brush aside every point she made to in effect prove they could do the task without her. What she does do though is promote certain kinds of haircare day in, day out and so would've been perfect to explain the benefits of the product in the pitch, even if she wasn't PM.

When they froze her out of even doing the pitch, it screamed of them being scared of her ability. It looked certainly like bullying to me, deliberately frozen out because they were intimidated by her. I would've done the same had it been me and sulked.

I don't get this "clique" idea. The women seem like they could be a catty bunch in general but there don't seem to be teams or groups so much as that Aisha as an individual didn't listen to anybody else, at all, for all of the two days, apart from Vana, once, and even then she used that to try to hurl her under the bus later. The only thing that could be construed as isolating behaviour really was AIsha picking Natalie over Charleine to do the pitch, and even that's a push.
Charlene was a Physical Training Instructor in the Navy for 11 years and will have been taught how to be a team player (that I am certain of because I too was in the Naval Reserve for 9 years and had to join in the Navy training she will have done - including the hell fortnight of the Leadership school!)
The edit showed her apparently sulking, but it also showed her getting on with the tasks she had been given, and not giving up trying to win...... We saw Selina apparently dismissing Charleines insistence on getting the "better than argan oil" line into the advert - but it was there in the finished product.
Her knowledge and enthusiasm for hair are products SHOULD have been used more than she was - at the very least she would have been able to give a good pitch because awful packing and advert aside - she clearly thought the product was good and believed in it - something that the robotic Natalie did not.

There's certainly some cattiness but I don't really see any cliques forming either. For sure, there are some 1-to-1 relationships with a lot of friction (Selina/Charleine being the most obvious one), but that doesn't make the team clique-y.
And I would also add that it would be foolish to assume that there isn't some friction between certain members of the boys' team either. We just didn't see much of it in the second episode because they won.

BiB - I think actually, at the moment, she has a good chance of winning. That being said, she may have peaked too early.
If I'd have to hazard a guess at a winner, I would have to put my bets on her - but something tells me she won't win. I get the feeling she'll get a Liz Locke firing and be fired "with regret", and that the YF audience would disagree with it. She'll do a lot right, but she'll fluff up at one point, even though she's really good.
If she loses it at the business plan I'll be really annoyed. I'm one of those "the whole process is irrelevant if the business plan is crap" people. The format really suited the job title. I can see it working in some circumstances (it's impossible to work with some candidates - Steven from last year, for example) but not in others.
So why do I think she'll win but get the feeling she won't? Well - the previous winner was male (woop-de-doo, great logic there) so I think that there won't be a double-male winner as it's already happened twice before. Of the women - April, Charleine, Elle, Jenny, Natalie, Ruth, Selina and Vana - I can really only see Charleine as a stand-out candidate. April has no chance and Ruth will be seen as a "character". I'm already getting the feeling Lord Sugar has it out for Natalie, Elle and Selina as well, after the second task (but then again, I thought that about Bianca last year). Natalie failed at pitching and Lord Sugar dislikes her attitude, it's worse for Elle, and Selina did sort of okay at PM, but the press is all up over her, and that can never be a good thing.
This leaves us with Charleine, Jenny and Vana. It could be any of those three, though Charleine seems the safest bet to me (based on progress so far). It could be Jenny, but she's been very much in the background so far, and that's not usually a winner's edit. Vana's the opposite, but her erratic performance so far (poor in the first task and okay in the second) leads me to believe it's probably not her.

I was glad Aisha was fired I think she rode roughshod over Charlene and didn't use her experience or enthusiasm. I really don't like Natalie and her pitch was awful she's lucky to still be in it but I don't see her lasting long.

Liz seems to be the one people consider the classic 'great candidate who just missed out, unfairly'. Whilst you could easily say that about her, I would say that Miriam easily holds the crown as far as that one goes. Maybe Miriam isn't as easy to remember, given that she was on it back in Series 1 before The Apprentice was such an institution.

I thought Liz was a good candidate, certainly, but at the same time I suspected a lot of her reputation was founded on her record-setting 'sale' of a baby product to Kiddicare which was a case of exactly the right product for exactly the right retailer. To be fair, her pitch was very good too, but she was pushing against an open door. She wasn't trying to, say, sell fish to a vegan shop ...
I'd agree with the suggestion that Miriam was the one that got away. Really, series 1 had a particularly strong set of candidates, from Miriam and the winner Tim to Saira and James Max.
My recollection of Katie H is the same as yours. She seemed competent and reasonably likeable through the first half of that series, and it was only in the final few episodes that her edit changed completely to tee her up as more of a villain.

I think that in Episodes 9 and 10 she went back towards the 'competent and likeable' edit - though of course it wasn't as convincing, as she'd been a harridan before that.

Sophie - got her sums wrong on the first task, under the radar on the second.
Tre - did good sales on the first task, but a complete loose cannon.
Jadine - had won the first task as PM, but had been an irritating PM. Was on the side of the dog blanket on the second, which was a good one.
Andy - already fired.
Paul - been fairly quiet, but competent and on the dog blanket side.
Gerri - messed up location on the first task.
Naomi - seemed professional but quiet.
Rory - already fired.
Adam - seemed reasonably competent, but quiet. Was going to PM the first task, but the team forced Andy to do it.
Katie - quietly competent on the first task, a unanimously rated 'fantastic' PM on the second.
Ifti - already fired.
Kristina - quietly competent.

By that logic, the only person who could potentially be considered to have an edit as good as Katie's on the first two tasks would be Simon - and even then, I'd argue that Katie's was stronger given that she had a PM win. I don't know what people said on forums such as these in those days, but based on the first two episodes of Series 3, I'd have considered Katie my early winner, though she'd have quickly gone down of course.

“Okay, well I can't dig up a thread to prove otherwise, but I can recall how each person was portrayed in the first two episodes.
Sophie - got her sums wrong on the first task, under the radar on the second.
Tre - did good sales on the first task, but a complete loose cannon.
Jadine - had won the first task as PM, but had been an irritating PM. Was on the side of the dog blanket on the second, which was a good one.
Andy - already fired.
Paul - been fairly quiet, but competent and on the dog blanket side.
Gerri - messed up location on the first task.
Naomi - seemed professional but quiet.
Rory - already fired.
Adam - seemed reasonably competent, but quiet. Was going to PM the first task, but the team forced Andy to do it.
Katie - quietly competent on the first task, a unanimously rated 'fantastic' PM on the second.
Ifti - already fired.
Kristina - quietly competent.
Natalie - seems a bit ditzy, only thing of note being suggesting a nappy for the second task, which Katie quickly dropped.
Simon - did good sales on the first task, came up with the dog blanket idea on the second.
Ghazal - froze in the middle of the pitch.
Lohit - quietly competent.
The 'quietly competent' rating is based on the assumption that if you haven't really seen someone very much, but they haven't been criticised for staying in the background, they were probably decent enough for the editors not to consider their contribution significant - better than the outwardly poor people, but not as strong as the outwardly good people. By that logic, the only person who could potentially be considered to have an edit as good as Katie's on the first two tasks would be Simon - and even then, I'd argue that Katie's was stronger given that she had a PM win. I don't know what people said on forums such as these in those days, but based on the first two episodes of Series 3, I'd have considered Katie my early winner, though she'd have quickly gone down of course.

I remember Katie as coming across as being very competent. I was still expecting her to win right up to the moment when she had her breakdown in the boardroom which I will never understand.
The other thing I remember about that series was the rather hilarious lego apprentice.

Personally, I don't pick favourites that early.
But I do know that people really liked Jadine in the beginning (sort of Stella-lite). Obviously, that started to go downhill soon after her whole Eclipse obsession and later breakdown.

But Jadine's Eclipse obsession started in the first episode, and wasn't mentioned again beyond Episode 2?
Sorry to dig up an old thread but I'd like to retract my support for Charleine.
It certainly looked like she was being deliberately ignored in ep2 but, having watched ep3, I am becoming convinced that she's actually a thoroughly nasty piece of work and that's probably why the rest of the team wanted nothing to do with her.
Maybe I'll be proven wrong but I get the impression that when there's an episode where she has centre-stage she's going to reveal herself as a complete psycho.

Selina is the one who seems to upset people - we saw her fighting with Charleine - and their with Vana and Natalie in this episode.
There does seem to be an awful lot of personal enmity in this series, and it is not confined to the women. Random chance or has something happened at the house that we are not privy to, such as a love triangle (or hexagon) or cheating at cards, perhaps? Even the "banter while waiting to see who was fired" scenes look unusually false this year.

Agreed. It was confirmed for me in this week's boardroom when Charleine started in on Selina even though she hadn't even been in the same sub team as her, so hadn't been working with her on the task. She does come across like a nasty piece of work.
I prefer Charlene to Selina, she is really coming across as a horrible b****h, I know its editing, but horrible so far.

I wouldn't say Selina is horrible or bitchy, but she is being edited as an ass-coverer, and she does pull a mean smugface. Charleine though, I still don't know where her attitude came from this episode, either she's a nightmare to work with because she will hold a grudge, or that argument started earlier and it was edited to just be the two of them, so we have this years Daniel and Mark.
