It's strange that the Grammy's nominated Control by Janet Jackson for Album of the Year in 1987 but didn't nominate any of the albums Madonna released in the 1980s for anything. Madonna was ignored big time by the Grammy's at the height of her career in the 1980s, especially compared to Michael Jackson (he won eight in one night), Whitney Houston, Cyndi Lauper, Tina Turner and Prince. Janet only received three nominations in the 1980s (the same as Madonna) but at least one of those was in one of the four main categories, Madonna was only nominated for Best Pop Vocal Performance and Best Song Written Specifically for a Motion Picture or Television.

Control was about Janet having control. That was her "debut" album. Before then she was a pop puppet, with music written for her and being told what to do. You need to factor in label politics.

I don't think its fair to say that MJ and JJ success is down to QJ and Jimmy Jam. Some producers have major rapport with the artists and get them - i think this is what happened here.

JJ backlash was race related. There is absolutely no way that if the races where reversed that JT would have escaped criticism. It comes down to ingrained perceptions of the race of women (from slavery days). e.g. white women= sexually pure and black women= sexually provocative; black women= more masculine whilst white women = infantalisation/meek, Asian women = passive. I am going to stop there as such a topic would need to be covered in a post by poster who isn't as lazy as me. I will implore you to read up on it tho as it is very interesting.
