Logged in for the first time in AGES to comment on this. Kirsty is not a good dancer, but decent paso music would have inspired her to engage with the dance, truly take on that character. She was dead right to complain about it - good on her. The producers seem totally unable to understand the power of music to make you want to move in a certain way, to boost your energy. Susanna Reid got VERY lucky with her paso music and that dance powered her to the final stages. I know Kirsty might never have got much further anyway, but I'm still angry about this - music is fundamental to dance and it is insane that the pros are not involved in choosing it.

I'm sorry but I hope Kirsty leaves this week. The song was the least of her problems....

I'm pretty sure I can count the number of times there's been good songs used for paso doble on the fingers of one hand. Beautiful day by u2 was a whole new low though.

Artem had many an argument with the producers though it was his choice to leave(jumped before he was pushed) and James Jordan stood up to the producers about the lack of say the pro dancers had in things. Brian voiced his opinion abit to openly to the producers and wasn't invited back the following series.

Now the cynic in me would say that the production team getting to choose the music helps their favourites progress through the stages. The music can be very influential in the voting process. Why else not let the pros choose the music?

I think they ought to either make it a piece of Spanish music every time for the Paso - or else drop the dance altogether.

It's very hard to ever get a good Paso on Strictly - and even less likely to happen with some of the very ropey song choices which emerge each year.

I think there were some very suspect music choices tonight, U2 was one of them but I can't help thinking that despite the music Kirsty wouldn't have done a good job. For someone so fit and atheletic she seems very weak in her core and is very wobbly.
She often looks like Brendan is dragging her around the floor and I guess more importantly for me she just doesn't look like she is enjoying it - at all.

Nooo don't drop it! It's a great dance.... and a strictly paso doble is the reason I got interested in ballroom dancing so I never want to lose them.

They just need to paso doble-ify the songs they want to use like they do with some of the tango songs. Or just go on the wikipedia page for paso doble and use some of the songs off there, lol.

Well, that's why I said they ought to provide appropriate music as an alternative. Just making a Paso out of a completely inappropriate piece of music really isn't working. There's a wealth of Spanish music out there, so no excuse really for not using it.

The producers regularly choose bad music for Pasos. It should be no surprise that have they done it again. They must have some plan to interest rock music fans in ballroom dancing and thus choose rock music for the only dance they think is vaguely suitable, apart from it isn't suitable after all.

The other point of view is that the cape twirling Paso is rather tiresome. That might be true but I can't believe the producers can't find other suitable music even if they have to go beyond the British Book of Hit Singles to find it.

Aside from the music, technically Kirsty just wasn't doing even the most basic elements right, her shaping was just such a miss (which was not all the fault of the music), and she did this weird thing when out of hold which I had no idea was about (prob because it was such a half hearted attempt of what it was meant to be so looked a tad strange).

I always feel sorry for celebs when they are trying their eyeballs off and yet it's just not happening. Not good, but if she stays for another week she needs to master even the basics well before she can hope to do wow performances (which of course she wants to do, but she's needs to just be realistic at what level she's at, regardless of what music is playing).

This is a pretty common criticism of most of Brendan's partners, Victoria Pendleton being the most obvious example but a lot of Brendan's partners look like they're being dragged- He's so competitive I think he forgets ton lower his ability to suit the celeb (something Natalie is excellent at) so it looks weird and awkward- And if it's a recurring theme it can't be that the BBC do core strength tests and then give Brendan the duffer, it must be his teaching style

There's plenty of decent Paso tracks on strict tempo cds that are produced specifically for dancing. The should be looking to some of those instead of pop charts.

Never heard that song before, but thought it was dire. As a pro Latin dancer I certainly wouldn't have wanted to dance paso to it - the phrasing was completely wrong for a start.

Having said that, I don't think the music would have made a lot of difference to Kirsty's dance; it's not as if this was a bad week after 3 'good' weeks! A playing Spanish Gypsy - the most authentic paso going - didn't do a lot for Carol, did it?

As I said in post above, there are loads of decent pasos (& every other dance) on cds that are specifically produced for dancing.
