I enjoyed it. Anton made it challenging, a proper VW. It was a bit skippy though.

A good comeback though.

What a truly fantastic VW. I loved it. Full of class, grace and beauty. There is no doubt Anton is the master of ballroom. If he seriously wants to win this competition he needs to enlist a Latin choreographer to help him devise some exciting and content heavy routines.

I have always thought Anton is a bit of a pillock but I was genuinely pleased for him tonight. He looked thrilled to bits, superhappy.
Pretty much sums it up for me! happy for both Anton and Katie tonight.

Fantastic, this is the Anton we need to see. It was beautiful, they both seemed so happy at the end. Well deserved to be at the top of the leader board.
Go Team Derbeke

Timing was slightly off at the beginning between the two before they went into hold, but when they were in hold it was beautiful and they got faster and faster and somehow Katie kept up and still looked beautiful (perfect framing). Definitely my favourite dance today. At one stage I thought Anton wanted to show the judges that he was right last week and Katie would full apart as he went tearing ahead ... but somehow she stayed glued to him.

It was definitely skippy, and Katie made a few mistakes, which the judges chose to ignore - having made a big 'thing' of Jay's mistakes.

Actually, Craig mentioned she made two mistakes (which was all I saw) - I know you are not an Anton fan but you really couldn't compare that to the unholy mess of Jay's QS tonight, surely?

I agree it was a little skippy.

As a longlong long time Anton fan I loved it. But I'd love it more if the thread was titled 'Congratulations Katie and Anton."

He's been top of the leader board a few times but not for a while. However, when he gets someone who can dance ballroom he is capable of producing the most superb routines and tonight's was one of them.
Thoroughly deserved to be at the top.

Totally agree. After 12 years it's his only his second time on top of the leaderboard. I thought he really showed himself to be useless last week but this was fantastic.

He must present this show one day. He'd be amazing.

Superb VW, and definitely deserved their marks today as Katie nailed that dance.

This. I mean he could be depended upon to make a stunning ballroom dance with a contestant who does possess the poise and elegance to carry that level of choreo off.

But the it turned into the Anton shouting show in the Clauditorium which kinda ruined the moment.

And alas as soon as he has to choreograph Latin again and especially the party dances he could be lined up for more of the deep criticism he (rightly) got for his cha cha which was terrible, even by his low standards.

I hope for Katie's sake they do have a run of classic ballroom for a spell and she stays in as she really seems to love it.

Hi missfrankiecat, I agree with kaycee to some extent even though I do like Anton and I really like Katie. As much as I was pleased to see a more challenging VW, I think the skippiness was really quite noticeable. I'm not so worried about the mistakes (I agree not comparable with Aliona and Jay, who had other failings anyway). However, I thought Katie did really well to sustain it and those pivots were impressive.

I would have marked them high, but not above Giovanni and Georgia. I think it was Darcy's mark that put them ahead of the field. The other judges marked a more modest 8 which probably took into the account the mistakes and skippiness.

Yep, The Anton Shouting Show in the Clauditorium. It did kinda ruin the moment, I agree.

As much as I dislike all the "Anton can't do latin" guff on here, he will really have to improve on last weeks effort if he wants to stay in until the end I think
No, Julia, we just want to celebrate Anton's and Katie's success for this week.
And of course he improved over last week.

Please allow us to celebrate without such sour puss remarks as yours.

Perhaps you missed the discussion between Craig and Darcey just before the marks were given.

Perhaps you hadn't worked out the maths - having 5 couples tie at the top of the leader board could seriously have skewed the voting and put 2 good couples into the dance-off. The judges aren't stupid.
