Anita and Gleb, followed by Katie and Anton. However, several celebs really upped their game last night - Jamelia and Carol to name two.

I agree, can only think the reason Craig marked Jay down so much was because of how good he knows he can be; still a 5 was ridiculous. As improved as Carol was (which was lovely to see) he gave them both the same mark. I was waiting for Jamelia to do something really good and finally she did, the dance really suited her. Well done Tristan. Well done all the pros. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

What does this post mean?
Katie & Anton just ahead of joint second G&G and Jamelia & Tristan.
Not that it is of major concern but I'm amazed how Jay & Aliona are winning this (albeit by only 3 votes) despite his mistakes. And then everyone wonders why I say with full confidence that, unless he kills someone in the process, Jay is surest winner in Strictly history. People always cite Natalie Guemede at this juncture but she wad a great dancer (ringah) who failed to engage the public.
Just interested in how you are voting. Do you vote for the same couple every week regardless of their dance or is your vote based on what you saw on that particular Saturday night? It certainly works both ways because Katie & Anton are up there THIS WEEK purely because of the quality of their VW, whereas Jay & Aliona are likely there because of their general popularity with the public regardless of the quality of their dance.

There are so many good pairs this year, but I thought the choreography to Kelly and Kevin's dance was so lovely I gave my vote to them.

The question is who is your favourite couple rather than which was your favourite dance. I don't have a favourite yet so voted for who was my favourite this week (Katie and Anton) but I can see why people are voting for Jay and Aliona if they like them the best overall.

I understand what you are saying but if for eg Jamelia & Tristan are your favourite couple in Week 1, on what basis could that choice change for subsequent weeks? And if the choice is not going to change from Week 1, then why ask the question every week? The only feasible reason for the latter is if your choice goes out and you are forced to switch allegience.

People often switch allegiance though as the weeks go by. We don't really get to know the couples until midway. Plus there really are some people who judge each week purely on the dancing and their fave couple each week varies. I'm not one of them but I know plenty of people who are.

I'm not sure as I never have a set favourite this early on but some people obviously do.
I suppose they see different things in the dances and vote on more than just how good they were. So if one week they have a not so great dance they still continue to be loyal to that couple.

So why did Jay get so many votes last week but a lot less this week. I always thought this thread was who do you think danced the best on the night? I know the title doesn't say that but surely that is why Katie is very close to him this week?
Since this is a weekly poll I imagine that one has to vote for their favorite couple based on this week's performance. having Jay and Aliona at the top this week says plenty about its forum members.

Because clearly people are interpreting the poll question differently, that doesn't make us wrong.
I read the question as it is stated and answered honestly, which is why, once people were miffed about how well Jay was doing, I made the helpful suggestion that wording it differently would have led me to choose Jamelia (had it asked for my favourite dance of the week, which it didn't)
My answer to the question "who is your favourite couple?" Is Jay and Aliona.

Remember it's favourite couple overall, not just based on ability.

No. I'm pretty sure it's a vote for who is your favourite couple. For me that changes each week at this stage, so it was Jay last week and Katie this week. For others their favourite stays the same week in and week out. For various reasons. It's not complicated really.
