The official "Helen cannot dance latin thread"
Mr_XcX

OMG 32 points for that Salsa which I found was awkward and stiff.

Again another female celeb who cannot dance latin gets overmarked by the judges to make her a "contender" for the show. Frankie Bridge springs to mind along with the likes of Pamela Stephenson.

Shock boot hopefully around week 8 for me.

Sorry Helen.....

What do y'all think?

I agree. I thought she looked awkward too and was waiting for the judges to be quite critical so was surprised when she was heaped with praise. I just assumed it was my inferior knowledge of dancing

I don't know if can't is the word...but I agree it was over-marked...as lively and sexy as last weeks rice pudding.

I wouldn't say she can't, but as Craig would say it was very much daaaaahncing by numbers.

I agree. It was very stiff and awkward and she does a really odd bow-legged thing which the judges never comment on (I assume its from her ballet training). I think Aljaz should stop trying to get her to do 'sexy' because at the moment its all a bit cringe.

Agreed...pigs and passages sprang to my mind right through her performance last night.

When they were giving comments and marks I did wonder if they were watching the same dance as me!

Didn't think it deserved the scores it got but then what do I know??!!

She can't dance party Latin, but I think she'll do a nice rumba and a strong Paso

I didn't think much of that salsa but I did think in some ways it showed she had learned something since the Cha cha. I don't think the salsa was better but I do think it too early to make pronouncements. The pieces maybe falling into place.

That routine couldn't have suited Helen less and I couldn't have hated it more.

The costumes, the winking, the ugly poses. It was excrutiating and sooo un-Helen!

Need every performance be such a literal take on the music? I think she could have done a more sophisticated Salsa and been pretty good at it.

I think Helen's a bit robotic and find it hard to like her. I don't understand the judges' comments. I thought the dance was poor. She doesn't have the sex appeal or the hips.

Must admit I thought Helen's salsa looked messy, and there were times when I wasn't sure if it was supposed to be a salsa or a Charleston. But I wouldn't go so far as to say "Helen can't dance Latin". She needs to loosen up more, and use her feet and ankles properly to create the hip movement, but even so, there's a lot who are far worse.

Will that routine be remembered for the most embarrassingly slow cartwheel on Strictly? I don't think it was so bad, some things done well and some things done not so well, and it looked better than Peter's paso.

Well I think she's a real sweetie and, bearing in mind this is only week 4, I think as the series progresses and she gets more training and confidence, that she could well be in the final three or four. Hope so anyway!

i love Helen (Although I hate that fake hair, and I super cringed at her trying to be sexy, it was uncomfortable to watch) but I was impressed at the vast difference from her last latin dance to this one, so as long as she continues to train hard, her latin will be fab by the end..

I love the way SCD generally improve the celeb's style (remember Chelsea!) so please remove Helen's extensions, pixie for Trixie! -

Pamela danced her salsa to the same song and I thought it was MUCH better than Helen's. She did a good Rumba and Paso from memory. She was also twice Helen's age and considerably heavier.

90% of contestants can't dance Latin very well and a lot of celebs are decent/good at ballroom and crap/mediocre at Latin. Harry's Latin was mediocre and I thought he was overmarked a lot, so why just pick on the female celebs?

Even flipping Michael danced Ballroom well at the end, but his Latin was truly awful.

Nasty thread by the way and you're not one bit sorry

Helen is one of the few contestants who is visibly improving so good on her. She's obviously working on the technical issues and her salsa was a great improvement from her cha cha.

Her, Jay and Kellie for the final please.

Good dancer.

Bad dance.

I think part of Helen's struggle is being 'herself' when dancing things that don't really chime in with her personality.

I think Kevin is being quite clever giving Kellie characters to play - she's obviously much more comfortable when telling a story and acting a part.

I think/hope there's better to come from Helen. I also found her salsa a bit unconvincing.
