Not that many comments on Mark's poor performance.

I hope you all remember that next time Jenny is on.

She admitted she hadn't a clue in most of them but Bradley still said he thought she played really well. I'm all for him giving them encouragement but he should draw the line at patronising lies.

Disaster from Mark. He gets so angry he doesn't even listen to the question. 13 opportunities to push back. That must be the highest ever.

He really is the worst loser ever. It's childish and rude. One of the Australian chasers, the other night, knew he was beaten but he still carried on competing, right up to the timer running out.

Quite shocking... never imagined I would see the day when Mark would only get 6. He definitely missed a few by rushing, but was obviously in such a deep hole that he knew chucking out answers as fast as he could was his only chance to make the time up, obviously it backfired big time though.

Its good to see though that ANY of the chasers can play very badly!

The difference is that his performance this evening was very unusual.
Jenny has come a cropper far too often.

Well chuffed

Richard Watkins ‏@richiew4ever

Mark well and truly stuffed there, bet no-one gets on his case though and calls for him to be sacked #thechase

Anne Hegerty@anne_hegerty

@richiew4ever Since he's been playing like a demon the last few months, I very much doubt it.

He simply did not have the time to wait.

The whole show is about maximising your chances of winning (for both the chasers and the contestants - see frequent discussions about taking the lower offer!)

In any competition where the degree of the loss is inconsequential, you can risk a losing by a greater margin in order to attempt to win.

Mark is trying to maximise his chance of winning. If he waits for the entire question, he has a 0% chance of winning; if he tries to preempt and guesses the question correctly, he has a very small, but slightly larger than 0% chance of winning ... so it's correct to risk preempting to try to win.

Yes, that's twice in two shows that the answer has been "black and white" now.

However, both times the question was "Which two colours ...?" and that's what separates it from that recent Juventus question which asked "Which colours ...?"

And what makes it worse is that answer would be rejected as a wrong answer anyway on the basis that he has had anything but a bare face these past few years.

What a shocker.
Lowest score for a chaser ever with 6.

But this was Mark!!!!
Not Jenny or Shaun,....but Mark.

yes, but the shows are not shown in the order they were recorded

some months back, Bradley knew an answer - Hallux being the big toe - but a week later had somehow forgotten !

probably a bit much to expect them to check that thoroughly

Mark has given abysmal performances before, but this has to be the worst I've seen him score on a final chase.

Personal opinion here, but it is more fun to see Mark to do badly, purely because the expectation is for him to do quite well.

Jenny and Shaun put in far too many average to poor performances, and not enough good ones, to be as enjoyable..

Has to be said, if I may rephrase your comment, that it's more fun for me to see Shaun play spectacularly well, purely because the expectation (of this forum especially) is for him to do badly. And fortunately this series he's been putting in some very solid wins. (Such as Monday's catching of 19 in what was one of his greatest final chase comebacks)

The only difference is that in the first part 'two' is specified whereas in your second example 'colours' is is asked for. They are both plural.

Fair enough.

In fact, my ideal Final Chase is the team getting 18-22, and then the Chaser putting on a good show and there only being a couple of seconds or points in it at the end. I guess my gut feel is that I get that more with Mark, Paul or Anne in the seat.

It's when the time gets to something like 4 x the number of points required that you know it's going to get exciting...

Mark made a right mess of that one!

Seconded. When Mark is chasing you generally expect him, if not to win, to at least give the team a good run for their money, whereas Jenny, and to a lesser extent Shaun, have slipped up on questions that the majority of us would expect them to know. As they say, anyone can have an off day, but Jenny seems to have had far too many of them compared to the other chasers.

I would suspect that as even Anne, the intelligent Chaser, only gave one colour as an answer, the producers realised the question was ambiguous (did he say "colour" or "colours") and have now sought to remove the ambiguity by specifically stating two colours in the question.

I'd agree. It was a bad question, and the only thing they can do is learn from it.

It's a bit like a Zebra, where everyone would say it was white with black stripes (and the factoid that it is really black with white stripes). We can all argue semantics, and there is no definitive right answer, but generally I believe most people talking about anything that had stripes of white and 'any other colour' would consider the stripes to be the 'any other colour'.
