Brian was far too quick in passing. He didn't seem to take account of the fact that there's a woman in her eighties on the team. She was knowledgeable, but her reaction time will almost inevitably be slower at that age. He was buzzing in and passing so quickly she just had hardly any chance to get in the game.

Brian was the best quizzer so it's right that he took charge, but the Captain should probably be counting two seconds in his head after Bradley's finished reading the question before he buzzes in and passes it or guesses.

Feel like Jeremy Clarkson today after my episode of #thechase. Thanks for all the "lovely" comments. I got on The Chase and you didn't....

Had a brilliant time on #thechase. Loving all the Twitter hate. I took the minus as I wanted to get back to my team. Give it a go yourself

Someone had a great scheme for how a team should co-ordinate their answering; was that you?

To summarise the scheme, by agreement the best quizzer takes charge and the others only buzz if they're sure they know and never pass or guess, leaving it to the 'captain'. For it to work the captain must wait a second or two if they don't know just to give them a chance.

What a waste of a fair chance for a decent team and he blew it.

They could also have some kind of signal, like shaking their head to let the others know they don't have the answer.

He's right, really. Regardless of how bad he did, and even he's been admitting he did horribly even weeks before the show aired, he still got on a TV Quiz show (two actually, as he was Countdown not that long ago).

Yes, that was me, well remembered.

I would post it again here, but it was on the previous Chase thread (Part 3), and I've no idea how you quote posts from another thread, or if you can even do it. But if you click on the link to the previous Chase thread (which is on page 1 of this thread), and go to page 307, it's there.

This doesn't work, it's been tried before. A team tried it, they all took their hands off their buzzer and put their hands by their sides if they didn't know the answer. It sounds good in theory but it didn't work in practice. It takes too long if everybody has to signal that they don't know the answer before somebody buzzes in and passes.

Somebody has to take charge.

But the chap today took it too far and didn't give his teammates much of a chance to answer before he passed.

Having said that most of his passes were in the first minute. It's possible he realised he was being too quick and eased off later on to give the others more of a chance.

Here you are; responding to this:

You'd think that they'd come to some agreement that they all wait at least 5 seconds before passing questions. If for anything to just give everyone a chance to think.
Which is right, except that five seconds would be an eternity, during which you might get a better question!

They should agree among themselves who is the team "Captain",ie the best player. It will usually be fairly obvious who this is.

The Captain takes charge of the final chase and answers the majority of the questions. The other players are there for support only.

The rules for the support players are simple: if you know the answer, buzz in,otherwise do nothing. The Captain does the rest. He is responsible for guessing and passing. if the question has been asked and the support players have not buzzed in,they don't know it. Then it is up to the Captain how much time to take if he thinks he knows the answer or wants to guess. If not,he passes. This avoids the problem above about players immediately buzzing in and passing, when somebody else might have known it.

The support players should never guess or pass. That's the Captain's job.

You are looking for the Captain to get maybe fourteen or fifteen right, which a good quizzer should be well capable of,and the support players to pick up four or five that the Captain doesn't know. This should set a good target and get through as many questions as possible.

The other players may not be happy with this arrangement, but it is in their own best interest to go along with it. it is the best chance of getting a high score and avoiding costly mistakes.

In her shoes I'd take the high offer - two bites of the same apple, innit. Even if I was caught, there'd be a chance of winning something.

I think I must have misheard one of the questions.
The answer was Katherine Parr.

I thought the question was 'Which of Henry Vlll's wives died in childbirth?'
