Good team today, they could well have won. They underperformed a bit in the final chase. There were a couple that were quickly passed that weren't that difficult, or at least would have been worth a guess.
Two of my least favourite Chase phrases made an appearance in the first ten minutes.
"I'll take the middle offer because we don't know what form Anne's on today."
Well, unless she's half asleep, has a raging hangover, or is drugged up to the eyeballs, none of which I think is very likely, I can provide the answer to that question. She will be on the same form she is every day. She will know the answer to most of the questions she gets asked. Some of them she will not know the answer to, and this will be almost entirely down to what questions she gets asked on the day, which is a completely random element over which she has no control. She is not going to suddenly forget the chemical symbol for Potassium or the year of the Battle of Blenheim because she's "out of form".
The other meaningless phrase that gets trotted out is "Don't take the lower offer, that's an insult."
To whom is it an insult? it's the lower offer. It's not a reflection on how well or how badly the player has done. The Chaser makes a lower offer. It is part of the game. It is up to the player if they want to accept it. It is not an insult. The more money in the pot, the bigger the minus offer will be. This is to discourage the player from taking it. If I was player four, and got £6,000 in the Cashbuilder, and there was already £30,000 in the pot, I know the lower offer is going to be a hefty minus. But I am not going to take it an insult.
