If Paul is referring to Thursday's show, which I assume he is, then, not for the first time, he is talking drivel. The extra step was not worth a negative £10k on such a relatively small jackpot.

We're all entitled to our opinions but, in this particular gameshow, the contestants are a team unlike Tipping Point, for example, where each person is playing for him/herseif.
A minus offer for the 2nd player, come on Shaun that's so unfair. He's even grumpier than usual tonight.
