Dreadful episode. That stupid woman took most of their money and never even answered a question in the final!!!!
I'm afraid because of her they never deserved to win.About time they stopped with the minus and just offered something low like £1 or £5 etc. In most cases it would be the correct strategy for player four to take the low offer anyway (if it wasn't a minus) even without a high offer being brought back, unless it's a very small prize fund. And as for "that stupid woman", she correctly followed the advice that Jon, the clear best player, gave her - take the high or low offer, do not take the middle. The middle is the worst option in that situation. She did I think get one right in the Final Chase, plus her point for being there. That might have been the difference between the team winning and losing. |

In those situations the middle offer is the wrong choice. You need to look at the overall prize pool as opposed to the numbers on the board so it was effectively a choice between
£30k £16k or £12k and by moving that step closer to home you're increasing your chances of getting back by more than 25% so you have to go low or go high. That's why I gave the advice I did even if I'd rather they hadn't gone for the minus offers. |

http://www.express.co.uk/showbiz/tv-...-Bradley-Walsh The 51-year-old brain box said that professional poker player Jon looked familiar as the pair prepared to go head-to-head in the first chase of the episode.
Mark was heard telling quiz master Bradley Walsh: “What do you call a golfer whose a much better player than he lets on?” “Bandit?” Bradley, 56, replied to him. “Yeah, that's him. He’s been on more TV quiz shows than I have!” |

If they stopped offering minuses it would make the low offer too easy to take for the rest of the team once somebody had brought back the high offer. Somebody who gets a low total in the Cashbuilder and there's thirty thousand in the pot has an almost automatic take of the lower offer if it isn't a minus.

As per my previous post, your advice was wrong! OK if the swing isn't very large, but you cost yourself £4,000.
She made the correct decision for her, for the team and mathematically. You disagree and that's fine, but you're wrong Hope you enjoyed the show though.

No, sorry, you, Jon and The Beast are all wrong. That was a negative swing of £12k and she got through easily. She cost herself and the other two players almost another 50% of what they won. They won £9k each, it should have been £13k.
They did not win £9K each, they won £12K each, so it was not nearly 50% of what they won. Had she taken the middle offer and got through, they would have won £16K each, so the swing was 33% of what they won each, not 50%. Then you say, "She got through easily", yes, she did, but nobody knew at the time when she was deciding which offer to take that she was going to get through easily. If they knew that then everybody would say, "Take the higher offer, you're going to get through easily." You can only decide if it was the right decision to make on the basis of the information available to the players at the time, not what subsequently happens. Nobody knows if they're going to get easy questions or complete stinkers. You can only play the percentages. |

Of course the fact that you never see the audience, you only ever hear them, is a dead giveaway that they aren't there. The audience laughter and applause sound effects are added in after the show. |

Well, if you're going to call out the Chaser, the player who was on the show and won the money, and myself, for all being wrong, you could at least get the numbers right.
They did not win £9K each, they won £12K each, so it was not nearly 50% of what they won. Had she taken the middle offer and got through, they would have won £16K each, so the swing was 33% of what they won each, not 50%. Nobody knows if they're going to get easy questions or complete stinkers. You can only play the percentages. Yes, bit of a mistake there, sorry, should have checked my figures before rushing to post! But even so, 33% is still a big percentage. I stand by my comment that -£12k was too big a swing to justify the extra step, and, although she may have been eliminated, the fact is she wasn't and all the team lost £4k.

No, I won myself £12k. Had she not made the final chase we'd have lost so her getting back was pivotal to us winning. It doesn't matter that she could have got back anyway the main thing was she got back.
She made the correct decision for her, for the team and mathematically. You disagree and that's fine, but you're wrong Hope you enjoyed the show though. Also, I'm not convinced you wouldn't have won without her. You and the other woman were far far stronger players than her. IIRC correctly she got one right in the final chase and passed on one. So you would have potentially lost two steps without her, but one of you may have got the question she got right or the question she passed on, plus if there had only been two of you in the final chase you may well have been quicker. |

I don't think I'm wrong but well done anyway for winning, even if it was less than you should have won! And yes, I did enjoy the show!

None of us passed on any question, Bradley commented on that once we'd finished but it didn't make the final edit. Without wanting to sound big headed I think I would have won had I been on my own in the final chase. I knew all the questions that Pamela buzzed in on plus at least one she got wrong and I wouldn't have come in too quick on the Medway answer and obviously had more time cos no buzzing. But we were a team and it was great to all win together, Pamela seemed so happy afterwards which was lovely to see. Susan was clearly a great quizzer as shown by her individual chase but the problem was she was just slower than Pamela and me so she didn't get to show her ability in the final chase. Also we'd agreed before the final that I'd give them about a second to think before I was coming in with a guess/pass. |

She got one right which was her only buzz. I definitely didn't know the one she got right and don't think Pamela did either as we were both quite quick on the buzzer.

I think if more teams did this scores in the final chase would be higher, as there would be less dithering about when nobody knows it and they're all standing there waiting for somebody to buzz in and pass. Hollyoaks, though, instead of Eastenders, on the "Which soap..." question? After he said Corrie and it was wrong, if you're guessing, you have to go Eastenders, it's like the fish/bird strategy for a "What sort of creature is a..." question. It's nearly always one of those two. You were lucky that didn't cost you. But well done on your win.
