Poor team today, maybe the producers made a mistake, a few people seem to think it's only Jenny that gets the poor ones

I don't remember who it was when the question with Homer came up, and they went for Maggie as the answer. Now it's obvious that the other answers were also Simpsons characters, but Homer was the only possible right answer, being a famous Greek author as well.

What relevance does that snippet of information have to the question that was asked? |

Edit: I just checked and it was a poem by Keats with answers "To Maggie" "To Bart" and "To Homer". As a guess, Homer was the most obvious choice. |

I can't remember what the question was (can you?), but whatever it was, the only answer that had a dual meaning was Homer. That's very often the way multiple choice answers are made up.
Edit: I just checked and it was a poem by Keats with answers "To Maggie" "To Bart" and "To Homer". As a guess, Homer was the most obvious choice. Now if 'Maggie' had been 'Marge' then that would have made it more difficult as Keats was well known for his dislike of butter. |

Today on Challenge the afternoon repeat was the one when that woman had a dig at Anne (saying something like "I find it hard to respect somebody who doesn't take responsibility for their weight"). Anne then despatched her in the head to head with relish. It was very funny, probably more so if you'd seen it before (as I had) and knew what was going to happen. It's on YouTube as "Anne owns rude contestant".
The other interesting thing about that episode was the prize fund. Player 1 got knocked out, Player 2 got two thousand in his Cashbuilder but opted for the low offer of only £200 and got through. After Player 3 (the woman who had a dig at Anne) got knocked out, that left Player 4, who went for the middle offer of £6,000 or so. It got down to a one question shootout and I was really hoping he'd get knocked out, just for the comedy value of seeing Player 2 playing on his own for his £200. Unfortunately he got through (although Anne ended up winning easily anyway). If you go for the low offer when there's not yet any money in the pot (ie you're basically playing safe and expecting the players after you to take the risk to boost the prize fund), and you end up as the only player playing for next to nothing, you've sort of got what you deserved, in my opinion. |

Well the first two players have already got more in the Cashbuilder than the whole team managed the other day.
Remains to be seen if the other two can keep up this standard. |

Square root of 40,000
FFS ITV!! ![]() ![]() Normally your complaints are about mental arithmetic questions that are too easy. So I'm not sure. Personally I thought it was harder then the usual arithmetic questions they have, but certainly not impossible, if you give it a bit of thought. it's just 400 x 100, so the square root is 20 x 10 = 200. You could even do it as 4 x 10,000, if you know that the square root of 10,000 is 100, then it's just twice that. The square root of 400,000 would be a lot harder, though, because the above tricks won't work. You're left with 40 x 10,000, so it's a hundred times root 40, which is about 6.3, approximating, because it's about a third of the way between six squared (36) and seven squared (49). So it's approximately 630. The actual answer is 632.4, to one decimal place. I think that would be a bit hard for a Chase question.

Crikey Sarahsaurus. You've put the mockers on contestant number three!
![]() The other two were not as good, but they still did okay. I would say the weakest player today was still better than at least two of the players on Tuesday's team. I think the total for the Cashbuilders today was about £25,000, nearly double the total the players managed on Tuesday. That is quite a big difference. As I said previously, the way they put the teams together is a bit of a mystery. Obviously the production team cannot be sure exactly how well or how badly each player is going to perform until they are actually on the show, but the auditions must give them a pretty good idea. |

Loved Bradley's comment after the 2 ladies had been introduced to each other - something along the lines of 'well , that's the pleasantries over and done with'. ![]() I also think the lady contestant trying to educate Ann about a previous answer she gave ( possibly about a cat? ) really riled the Governess. |

You're right about the cat thing, she said something like, "Oh, the so and so is a breed of cat", showing off her knowledge, and Anne said, "Yes, well, I don't really care about that, but thank you."
