I thought everyone knew that 'messages' means the shopping.
Only in the north.

This lass is not the cleverest but she does have a good sense of humour.

You say you're from Bonnybridge which I'm guessing is in Scotland, so obviously you are going to know a Scottish usage.

VQ also suggests it stretches as far south as the North of England, but it's unheard of in the South.

I happened to know it because I have come across it before, but people would stare at me vacantly if I used it here (not that I would, of course).

To be honest I think the guy would have scored more if he'd been by himself in the final chase, not having to buzz in and wait for his name to be called.

Actually, the contestants name is pre-recorded and linked to the button push.

I certainly remember it being used during my young years in Liverpool.

Thanks for that Jeff, but the contestant still has to wait to hear his/her name.

Why do contestants have to give their age and what is the point? If I ever applied and got chosen, I would refuse to give my age and on that basis would probably not be allowed to go through to a recording.

The point of having to state the age is to allow us to say how awful they look for their age.

As in "I've just nicked a load of messages"

I'm from the Home Counties originally and the only reason I knew what messages were was because my brother-in-law is Scottish.

True, Jeff. And I only know it because.... a) I had a brother-in-law who was from Yorkshire and b) Because I used to work for a Scottish bank and was surrounded by Scots.
Definitely a 'northern thing'.

I wonder if Harry met Sir Ian McKellen on Doctor Who?

I thought he would have gone for the Firty Fousand pounds

I can't see them winning this with only 15, thought they would have done better...
