I didn't take a step towards the chaser? Anyway, I've nothing more to say on the subject, I've explained my reasons and I don't really care if you agree with them or not. You clearly think you have a master strategy for this show so why don't you apply?
Everyone's a critic. Your general knowledge was very good. Shame you didn't get that Virginia question right as I thought you would have thought the name Virginia was connected to the US state. But that's easy for me to say sitting at home on my comfy sofa.

You had three possible options. Four steps (from the Chaser), three steps, or two steps. You thought that being three steps away rather than four was worth an extra £2,000/67% each (so you thought that taking that step was worth £2,000) but you didn't think that being two steps away rather than three was worth an extra £10,000/200% each. I don't understand how the risk of one step IS worth £2,000/67% but the risk of the next step is not worth £10,000/200%. Unless you have spotted something I have missed?

I don't claim to have some 'master strategy' just a grasp of statistics and simple logic. I do intend to apply for the show at some point.

You came on to these discussion forums, so you are going to get discussion. I'm not sure what you expected? Lots and lots of praise? I have already said your knowledge was good, but the flip side of that is that your tactics were poor and I'm going to be honest with you and say that.

If you have a grasp of statistics you also need to factor in the chance that people are 2,3 or 4 questions worse than the chaser.

Someone who has earned £7,000 would, I'd suggest normally not be more than 3 questions worse. Jenny was just unlucky with the questions today.

By your logic, everyone would be taking the low offer and there would be very little money in the final pot.

Exactly! If I went on I would find it near impossible to take a minus, that's just me. How many times have I seen comments on here moaning about minus takers?

But if I'd taken the minus after a £7k cash builder I think I'd have been in for some serious forum criticism for a different reason, so you really can't win. Hey ho.
Oh you certainly would have been in for some criticism on here about it as some people on here have no understanding of tactics and criticize anyone going low. Going for the low offer would have taken a lot of courage and I have to say in your position I probably wouldn't have been brave enough to do it even though it would have been the correct decision.

It may sometimes be tactically better to take the negative offer, but it's never morally justified.

The only "correct" decision is the one you feel comfortable going with.

I think that's a nonsense statement.

How do morals come into that decision?

No, not at all. You have totally misunderstood my logic if you think that.

Today, for example, perfectly ok for the first three players to go for the middle offer, but for the final player it had to be the low offer or the high offer, the middle offer shouldn't really have been a serious consideration given the numbers involved.

Do you think the seats are drawn at random?

I wouldn't want to be in seat four as that is the most difficult decision and the decision which seems to come with the most stick either way.

It's obvious. There is no "correct" or "incorrect" option.

Thats not to be confused as to whether one option is better or worse.

This is complete nonsense but typical of much posted on this subject. Taking the low offer can often be best for the team and considering the courage this often takes should be applauded when it is the best option.

Of course going low may not be the best for the team but very often it is.

What is not morally justified (in my opinion) is very poor quizzers going on the Chase when they know they will be part of the team and likely to let the others down. That is what people should get annoyed about if they are going to get annoyed rather than about them taking the low offer.

Nothing to do with yesterdays program but this question was on The Chase USA on Challenge early this morning:
"...........1800-FU-CKYO is the phone number for what organization?"

There was something else at the start of the question but i can't remember the exact wording.

Can't see that getting onto ITV1 at 5pm.

That's what I thought. Maybe he was a carpenter before he became Super Mario.

The question was about the profession he was originally given.
