Surely its best to buzz in only when you know you are correct to give other people a chance of the correct answer. A team leader should be unofficailly appointed by the team prior to the final, to buzz in with a 'pass' after say 5 seconds if no one is buzzing in.”
I have outlined a strategy earlier in this thread that involves the team appointing a "captain" (ie the best player) that takes charge and deals with guessing and passing. Few teams seem to use something like this, but I am sure it would improve their chances if they did.
One thing, though five seconds would be far too long to wait before passing. Just count out five seconds in your head - it's longer than you think. If they did that they'd be wasting far too much time just standing there.
Two seconds would be more like the right amount of time, I'd say, but really it should be down to the Captain to decide. If it's a tough question and he doesn't know it and there's no sign of life from the others he's as well passing it and getting on to the next one.
