boring chase that was.

I disagree with Paul's praise for the final chase. Jo got at least half of her answers wrong, buzzing in before the other girl could (possibly) give the right answer.

The trouble with that is that you can get a player who is too quick on the buzzer saying "pass", without giving the other player(s) a chance to answer. I thought that with Jo today.

Was it just me or did the contestants questions seem quite hard today?

To quote Chris Tarrant

"They are only easy if you know the answers"

Paul didn't really have to break sweat today and it was pretty much a routine victory

Three on the bounce now for the chasers IIRC, so the players will probably win tomorrow

Cue Jenny doing the chasing tomorrow, as she is not in the greatest form at the moment

That's true (but also see the 'Stupid answers...' thread!)

It's also probably true that if you play along with the show every day, particular with the two Final Chases, I'd think you'll usually score roughly the same every day, plus or minus a couple. If you exceed expectation, then you'll feel you played very well; if you fail to meet expectation, you'll probably feel the questions were much harder than usual (this is a form of Attribution Bias )

I'd hope to get 12 on a final chase, +/- 2. Once or twice over the years I've had 18, when every question fell into an area I just happened to know. I got only 5 on one of the shows earlier this week! (Anne's show, IIRC)

However, some questions come up time and again, and people know them because they are common questions, just like many players on Countdown know words like GHERAO and LODESTAR, most Scrabble players know DZHO and QAT, etc. before they even start. Then there are are facts "that everybody should know" (but don't, alarmingly) e.g. the name of the current Prime Minister, the reigning monarch, the number of months in a year ...

If none of those frequently asked questions come up, then I think it's fair to say that the questions were "harder than usual" on the basis that there were fewer gimmes... I've almost convinced myself that that's true.

A weak player like Glen is only any use in the final chase if they both:
a) bring additional knowledge the others do not possess (due to age, gender or specific expertise)
AND
b) they have fast recall

They also need to put aside any desire to 'prove themselves' by jumping in too quickly and guessing or passing

With the question what 3 dart score is the highest without no trebles or doubles, she said 180 which was wrong, brad said 150 which is wrong as well as the bull (50) is a double .

It should of been 60 .

Would it not be 75 then? 3 outer bulls.

Neither, Bradley was correct.

50 is not a double which is defined as the outer ring of the board, 50 is specifically the "double-bull" or "bulls-eye" or "inner-bull".

Mark has commented on Twitter that he had to face a lot of good teams in this series. I'm beginning to wonder, as another facepalmingly bad team turned up to play today, meanwhile Paul has had to chase 24+ at least 3 times in recent weeks, IIRC.”

I noticed this a couple of series ago. Inevitably Shaun always nowadays seems to get the weaker teams to try and improve his record. I've noted down five different ten game totals of all the Chasers' contestants cashbuilders and each time Shaun has had the lowest amounts. The last one was Paul 222K. Mark 206K Anne 204K and Shaun 176K.

That doesn't necessarily mean that the teams were weaker, for one thing a lot depends upon the head to head and the better the chaser does there the less players will get through and for another it very much depends upon the questions.

Indeed! I nearly fell off my chair when Shaun offered that much to player #2 (or indeed any player)

Well played Adam, was expecting it to be a total whitewash, but really put up a great score.
If only he could have done a couple of pushbacks ...

on a general point, I assume there is no audience present for the normal shows ?
(I note the Celeb ones do have an audience)
