I don't see it as cowardice. She earned the right to make a decision on her own terms, instead of choosing on the basis of sound mathematics.
What really stuffed her, apart from the Z-list celebrity marriage question, was
not hearing/reading the question about literature. She even knew Daphne Du Maurier wote Rebecca! Bradley is always careful to emphasize the
NOT and it is capitalised too. I'd put it down to nerves. Unlucky.
And yes, she'd have got through with the Rebecca and -£2000.
