Passed on far too many and some easy ones wrong like saying Japan instead of Tokyo.

Elaine got 8 of the 10 correct answers.

Me neither but...... If they had won, both would have gone home with £13k. Not bad at all and Nigel didn't seem too bothered about it.

I don't understand when people call taking a minus cowardly. People know that taking the minus isn't popular with people watching. Doing something you know isn't going to be popular isn't cowardly.

The ones I don't like taking the minus are the ones in seat 4 who take a hefty minus after the first three are through and look a strong team who have a good chance to win anyway. That's not so much cowardly as selfish. Often the seat 4 player contributes very little to the final total. But that isn't the case here. As you say, she wasn't thick. She's more than likely going to be needed in the Final Chase. Unless the other guy is a well above average quizzer, he is probably better off if she takes the minus and makes sure she gets back.

Would the guy prefer she goes for the middle offer? Then she's got much more chance of getting knocked out, and he's going to be on his own, and players on their own very rarely win.

Anyone notice what's wrong with this story?

Yes. The Chase does not have a studio audience, unless its a celebrity edition. I was in the studio audience for one. Applause, laughter or booing for the ordinary shows was specially recorded there.

I didn't notice. Did the producer use canned booing?

What's wrong with this story?

it's just a typical piece of minus player knocking, accompanied by the usual hysterical Twitter quotes. Sometimes (but not always) taking the minus is the right thing to do. it probably was here, Most selfish player ever, that's a load of nonsense. As I said above, it is actually in the other guy's interests for her to take the minus here and make sure she gets through. If she gets knocked out, he'll have next to no chance. I think he realised this - he didn't say, "Don't take the minus."
And so it proved, in the Final Chase she answered more questions than him. There are people that just don't seem to be able to accept that taking a minus is sometimes the right play for the team as a whole, not just for the supposedly selfish player that does it.

And yes, there is no studio audience, so she could not possibly have been booed. The audience noises are added later. The writer of the article seems unaware of that. And in any case there were no boos heard anyway. I watched it again and they had added some "sharp intake of breath" audience noises when she took the minus, but there was definitely no booing heard.

No, he didn't. See my post above. I don't think I've ever heard audience booing noises added. If they have been it would probably be booing the Chaser. I doubt they'd add noises booing a player.

All the pressure on Benjamin now, at least the minus will not be as big as the ones Mark has been dishing out lately, probably minus £3k.

Then again maybe he is a genius and will go for the middle one with 9 correct in the cashbuilder

The amount of strong teams Mark and Paul are getting in comparison to the other three is mental, has to be said!

Paul should have waited to hear the whole Buenos Aires question and he would have caught them. Good win for the team.

I think these stories are getting a bit out of hand now. Personally I hate players taking minus offers, especially as big as that, but vilifying them in the press and making OTT statements like 'most selfish contestant ever' is going too far IMO! Plus quoting random people on Twitter is just lazy journalism really.

As an aside, really great team today and pleased to see them deservedly win a very nice sum of money!

That's the difference when the team can put the Chaser under time pressure, instead of allowing them to sit there and think about each answer for a second or two.

A question to the young man about 1918 and the send of the First World War.
Did I hear correctly that after not knowing the answer he said "It was before my time"?
Does he think that Paul, or anyone in the building for that matter, was around at the time?

Why is Paul called the sinnerman??
The nicknames are daft.

Two good retorts went by-the-wayside today.

When Paul sang the phrase from "If I were a Rich Man" and then said "But I don't remember all the words"
Bradley should have said "... or the tune, obviously"

Also when they said to the philosophy student "You're wasted on philosophy"
the guy should have said "Have you thought about that?"
