How the hell was it Eileen's fault that Melinda was too damn stupid to operate the shower even after being shown how to?! £10 underpayment because she's dumb! And why did Eileen accept that as if it was her fault!

I can't believe Melinda dared to argue about the cleanliness of her place, and her friend is defending her. And then she announces she's not a cleaner! And thinks it isn't her fault that her rooms were underpaid. I hope she watched the show and saw what we saw. Although I doubt it.

It is possible that, depending on the plumbing and shower type / fittings at Eileen's gaff, the shower doesn't maintain a steady temperature if other people are showering / running baths simultaneously. Or - again depending on the boiler and plumbing - if someone had already used all the hot water.

If Eileen then tried the shower a while later when no one else was using water then it would appear there was no problem. Melinda may well have had a dysfunctional relationship with the shower controls but as viewers we can't be sure there wasn't genuinely a problem earlier in the evening that Eileen was able to successfully gloss over.

I thought Melinda was reasonable in her concerns about the security at Bubbles. The 'private courtyard' only looked to have a wooden panel fence of about 2m (or thereabouts) so I'd not be confident in leaving a ground floor door open while I was asleep. There are indeed bars that can be fitted to French doors to fix them slightly ajar - if they are the type we had in the UK, they only prevent the doors from blowing open... they are in no way secure if someone decided to apply force.

In any event, a thoughtful host would point out this security feature to guests - especially a solo female guest - and Connie clearly didn't.

Anyone could be forgiven for missing that - it clearly stuck to the corner of bin liner, which was otherwise as clean as a whistle. And then when you realise that she presides over a filthy hole, you just know she's off her trolley.

She shouldn't be anywhere near the hospitality business with her personality and unwillingness to accept responsibility and constructive criticism.

She could of course have used the room stat to control the temperature or was that beyond her capabilities too?

Shame she didn't cast her hypercritical eye around that manky house of hers.

Exactly what I thought too - most rolls of bin liners have a paper 'tube' holding the roll which you rip off when you start the roll... I thought it might have been a bit of that paper.

Do we know what there was in the way of a room stat? Or how warm the weather was at the time of filming?

I don't like Melinda and think she is a bad example of the hostility industry but I don't think it's fair to make assumptions like that. If it's a hot day, unless there's aircon, a room stat can't do much in the way of cooling a room whereas opening a window in the evening might.

If it's Connie's place we are referring to, then yes, there were thermostats in all rooms- I even noted how great it must be being able to control your own temperature.

Melinda would have hated staying at the Italian hotel I stayed in last summer, not only were there only doors that opened onto the "private gardens" but those gardens faced the road and were only surrounded by knee high hedges. I still slept with my doors wide open. My snoring would have put anyone off from trying to break in anyway

Either way, if someone had wanted to get in they could do that through an open window as well. We also don't know what was behind the fence- it could have been a completely isolated area where no-one walks.

That's a possibility - tilty-turn (technical term )

Tilt-turn windows are commonly used in mainland Europe but when we have British guests, we normally need to explain how the mechanism operates. They're not used for doors so much partly for weight reasons (an exterior-quality double-glazed door is quite heavy at the pivot point when it flops inwards) but also because of the locking mechanism. If that's what Connie has installed on full-size doors, he should definitely make sure guests understand how they work.

I've got one of those tilty-turn doors to my conservatory. Not that I knew it when I first moved in - one day I turned the handle the "wrong way" and the door fell in on me!
I don't think thats what Connie meant though - I'm sure its some sort of locking system that means the door can be locked ajar - like a lot of double glazed windows.
Lets face it - if Melinda hadn't found the door to moan about it would've been something, anything, else.

Overall Eileen and mene were over critical at the Fleece, BUT I would never have paid for the breakfast it was inexcusable. It was greasy, the tomatoes were cooked to death and mainly just the shrunken skin. That also added to the mess on the plate. IF he hadnt said he was a chef i would think he was just basically cooking a breakfast. So many faults on that plate. BLEURGH. I would have taken off 10.00. Which equates to 5.00 for each breakfast inedible. The rest of their complaints i found irksome.


She had no right to down pay them at all, as Eileen is clearly showing her how to use it. She could have called Eileen up late afternoon to show her how to use the shower. She didnt have to go without one, she used that to down pay what was overall a very clean and well run BnB.


Connie has had that Hotel for awhile now. IF there was a problem for customers re the ventilation I am sure it would have been clearly marked in the room, how to open the door without loosing security. There were clearly room thermostats in each room. Melinda was sat in her bed and having to moan about something. Also Connie clearly said on camera the room is safe contained in a court yard and no one has ever felt threatened. IF she was that worried again she could have called him up.


I thought that one statement said it all. You have to know how to clean, how do you expect to keep standards otherwise? Anyone can see dirty carpet (which it clearly was), dirty drawers, bits on the floor, socks under beds, and dusty books everywhere, and clearly hairs in the bed, and dirty pillows. The rooms were dirty. Only one seemed to be clean Sylvias perhaps that was the most popular room.


It has shocked me to see that he runs a company INSPECTING hotels and BnBs. On his web site he states:

As a member of the respected Michelin Guide, and our extensive knowledge of the hospitality sector, we ensure establishments are aware of any failing standards which guests are more critical of in regard to service, cleanliness, and food & beverage quality. We identify weaknesses prior to your guests placing their comments on TripAdvisor when it is too late as the damage has been done. Guests are "voting with their pockets" and expect more value for their hard-earned money.

I think he is as deluded as Melinda to be honest. There was NOTHING that wrong in her rooms that a good cleaner couldnt have sorted out in a few hours less probably. He did Melinda no favours.


She did say on camera she has a cleaner and a cook.... My friend runs her BnB on her own, and she also has a cleaner but she cooks her own breakfasts for her guests, loads of people do it on their own. Having said that my friend has the experience to run one in the first place.

Well Laird Stewart is as about as useful as a chocolate tea pot. Where was he when she was falling apart in the kitchen? Oh yeh he put some jam in a pot, big deal.


No she didnt, she will never learn by the experience as she thinks she is right. She said on camera she would have to rethink how she thinks about things or words to that effect. She needs to learn to LISTEN TO CRITICISM and take it on the chin, and go back to her gaff and get the place sorted. She needs to STOP pretending to be something she isnt. She had a nice place in a housing estate, it could have been great but it wasnt. It was only missing some good standardisation on cleaning, and less fussing about with breakfast. She tried to offer far too much. Like Connie said she had enough food and stuff out in the kitchen to feed 200 people.


Its even worse to find he runs a company teaching hospitality etc. Jeez even worse for me. I could do a better job. I thought he was UNFORGIVABLE to ask Eileen if she was scoring low for revenge. It goes to show how he is blinded so much by Melindas personality he couldn't see the mess the place was in...... I think if i had been in Eileens room i would have made worse comments. The place was a mess. SIMPLES.


She got cut down for size. Shame really as I do think she was swept up on the tide of producers manipulations. I am hoping she learns by it.


I had a good GIGGLE over that. I would take him to the Trading Standards for the mess he helped get Melinda into.


I think Eileen was just fed up with it to be honest. I thought she would have had more fire in her belly. Maybe she did and it was edited out and re filmed.

Well the best BnB won for me. I think North Street should have come second for being a good quality budget hotel. I would have voted for the Fleece BUT unforgivable the breakfast was disgusting. Its supposed to be a BED n BREAKFAST, they got a nice bed, but the BREAKFAST was inedible.

Melinda coming last was no surprise to any of us. She set herself up for a fall sadly. I think she needs to come out of the BnB business, and perhaps just rent her nice room out with the ensuite. Having a BnB is hard work. IF that Laird Stewart was there to support her professionally as per his business web site states, then I would ask for my money back.

I think Connie was the best for me and he did come over genuine, regardless of what some people say, because on camera he did stick up for Melinda, and even last night said that finding those faults didnt sit well, but you have to say them as otherwise how will people learn.

Melinda was more then quick enough to complain herself, now she needs to learn by it.

So thats it FOLKS for another year. I hope the format changes, otherwise i think they will loose a lot of viewers.

I wouldn't put it past producers to engage in some shenanigans but in this case, I don't think she needed any help whatsoever.

It's her personality, that you alluded to, that got her into trouble. She's deluded in terms of what she expects from others versus what she herself provides and she was incompetent in terms of putting a full English in front of 5 people. It's a very easy thing to do and EVERYTHING can be cooked ahead of time apart from the eggs which you cook to order. Hardly a 10 course degustation and not beyond the wit of man.
