They have lowered it, everyone else are charging the full price.
They know it's way under charged, 3d tv's, leather beds and those kind of rooms are not £80-£90, they know they will get overpaid and then end up winning.

I thought it was most odd, especially when they'd done the room inspections and asked each other 'Are we staying?' that snippet was repeated in the opener tonight.

That was silly, although I wouldn't be fond of Venison sausages and think more specialist products like that are a bit OTT - especially at the rate they're charging there.

Only because as said before, the whole premise of the competition is based on everyone charging their full top rate price. They must be told if it's peak Summer or similar though and it surely must exclude special events with extras included

People booking their B&B will be really peeved off as they are expecting to pay £80 and discover it's actually £145. Their tactics could backfire on them.

Just had a look on their website, took ages as TA isn't booking it for some reason and their website wasn't easy to find (for me anyway).

So booking on 9th July, you have to stay for two night minimum and for the two nights is £500, £250 a night, a big jump from £80 on the show really.

That first bedroom is bigger than some of the 2-bed flats I have viewed recently. And I am not even exaggerating.

The mums face was a proper cats bum face out of jealousy.

Third bedroom looks bigger than my entire ground floor. I am moving in.

At £80 a night including brekkie it would probably be cheaper as well.

I'm pretty sure that after seeing this any future guests will not only call ahead for the price of a room but require an e-mail confirmation. Yes, the tactics may well backfire, I would say they just want to get their product out there and leave it for the public to decide for themselves if the room is worth anything up to £250 (as has been mentioned above). As you say this is risky, but their place has been on national TV for a week and there's no way they could generate such publicity using other means. After this I really think production will really need to take a more introspective view as to how they present this show, personally I'm fed up with hairgate, sausage-gate, poached-egg gate and now we get price gate

I think the mother and son are really nice. I think their relationship is great, it's lovely to see a 19 year old guy so chilled around his mum.

I agree. I don't see anything weird about it at all. I had a relationship like that with my mother. Her name was Norma.

I do think the whole show is a becoming quite silly at times. People getting their backs up because someone mentioned there was a cobweb and only giving them a 9, or the excessive moaning about tiny issues!

Who would care if there was a bit of fluff in a bed?

It's actually highly offensive and slanderous to suggest otherwise really!

Yeah I think suggesting something incestuous is going on is a bit much.

I agree - I want written confirmation, booking reference or similar for a room reservation... along with the price and Ts&Cs - cancellation terms, for eg.

I see Shelsley Walsh's website doesn't show many prices (or I didn't spot them) and the date search facility is tucked away at the bottom left of the home page - which suggests the hotel isn't encouraging guests to find or use it. Then, the only room package that shows any availability via the hotel is the King + Morgan Car Hire. Perhaps because there are terms and conditions associated with hiring the Morgan (age, clean driving licence) which needs to be confirmed direct when booking.

It may be they only take bookings for other rooms via listing / booking engine sites (like booking .com) though one of the (99% excellent) TripAdvisor reviews mentions Voyage Privé which is one of those sign up for 'exclusive' membership deals (yeah, right) sites. I cba to join but maybe someone here is already a member and can ferret out the current prices... and someone may already have done that upthread but I've missed it.

However they're filling their rooms, according to the TA reviews they seem to have a hotel that everyone who stayed has enjoyed and rated highly.

It's not fair that those two today are charging such low prices. But then that's probably why they were selected for the programme!

Yes, but the problem is doing it on 4iab means the other places haven't a cat-in-hell's chance of winning.

Not everyone likes venison sausages or tomatoes cooked on the vine.
I recall a place on a previous series having to admit they'd served up a breakfast that was far more comprehensive than their usual. I think maybe the same here as they were presented with huge portions for the room rates. Though if the real room rates are in the £250 range maybe that would be appropriate.

I dont have a problem with their relationship. I do have a problem with how we are supposed to find his stupidity amusing. Whether put on or not celebrating how thick he is doesn't entertain me. Neither does the "too posh" complaint.

I didn't like the too posh comment. I don't like her nails either. Hate when women point their horrible plastic nails at all the hairs and stuff they find.

I think "posh" was probably just a poor choice of word. Myself I thought the presentation was very OTT on those huge square plates with each breakfast laid out "just so".
As I posted above the portions were huge and there were lots of extras like hot pastries and fruit compotes. It's no wonder those running established B&Bs with actual profit margins to consider thought it all rather underhand.

They didn't share a double bed. It was two twins close together. he made a comment about moving them apart and mum said no, jokingly.
