They have more money than sense. Probably footballers trying to get away from the wife with their bits on the side so they need somewhere discreet away from prying eyes.

Martin says that sometimes his guests like their breakfast at 4pm, then he says his guests include business people, what's he on? Business people want breakfast at 8am but then again, he didn't mention what sort of business his clients are in.............

Just looking at the trip advisor reviews of Halliwell House and surprisingly they're quite good. Read this bit,

'We had a arranged to have use of the hottub (for an extra charge) which we all loved. Things such as robes can be provided but they have small additional charges'

So you pay £500 a night and then have to pay extra to use the hot tub and robes :S Also for that price I would expect/demand a cooked breakfast, talk about a rip off.

To be fair not everyone wants a cooked breakfast these days, it is so unhealthy. I am a veggie and loved the look of his breakfast, in fact I prefer it.

I do think his place was a rip off though but plenty of people would pay the prices I'm sure.

But do they want Martin there in the kitchen with them asking to pass the bread?

For that price you should be given the choice.

Martin seemed like a bit of a nut job but he wasn't a horrible person. All in all - the people this week were a very nice bunch.

We said the same the other night, a right Del Boy (without the charm)

I really didn't get his justification for that...that the competition had cleaned theirs specifically (as opposed to not bothering) I don't clean our shower drain every day, but I clean it often enough to know it needs cleaning frequently and theirs was a disgrace.

He was extremely waspish and inhospitable, especially to Donna. Showed himself in a very poor light.

It was a point Normandie made at the beginning of the week and I was going to come back to - hospitality and generosity of spirit. Martin is so smug he's almost consumed himself, but he could learn a lot from everyone else who took part this week.

Other posters have subsequently posted what I thought and I reckon I was being generous. Staying legal, let's just say the advertising could feature something akin to 'no superinjunction required'

We talked about that earlier in the thread. I could only find just that single review, unless you saw any more?and it was from 2013. Note in the programme slippers and robes appeared.

To be frank, that probably is his market. Client who wants the run of the whole house, hot tub, kitchen and stocked fridge and sees a couple of grand at cheap, if twice the price - no questions asked, no staff who may talk out of school. Mum'stheword.

Note for Martin's PR. Hale is a location, not a 'destination'.

Mr Sail is just looking at a night at The Savoy for my birthday. £567 will buy us a partial river view king sized room with far superior furnishings and absolutely no purple!

Fair play to Donna for playing a blinder. I'd have paid a lot less to Martin and fair play to the Chapel, lovely people, with an excellent B&B who well deserved their win.

For the first time in a long while, the most deserving B&B won!

Not only that, they did themselves and their business the world of good by being fair and decent. I wish them well!

agreed....both they and the Isle of Wight couple showed themselves in a very good light

Martin - 'nuff said already.

Must say I was disappointed in Donna underpaying £5 at the first place as she didn't like the type of sausage nor the way her egg was done. Would she have done that in a cafe? If you're really so particular shouldn't you check on ordering?
As it goes those sort of sossies are my favourite

That is an excellent point. And might explain the lack of reviews - if he does get bookings, they are from people whose circumstances don't encourage them to write them.

I looked to see if Halliwell House was on booking .com - it doesn't appear to be - because booking's reviews are different to TA reviews. I saw a name I recognised: Ayuda House, a previous 4iaB participant who, iIrc, didn't cover herself in glory.

Season 9 / episode 44.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Episode 44 - Ayuda House

The final visit is to Ayuda House in Greater Manchester, run by Melinda Beckett-Hughes. The guests expect perfection, but make some shocking discoveries.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

She has a lot of really excellent reviews on booking .com so while she may not have come over well on 4iaB, she appears to be very successfully delivering what her customers want. But. There is then a bonkers, OTT response to a perfectly good review - "Highly recommended", written by Philip.

I think FIAB have added him in this programme just to create a controversy. It's certainly doing that.

That is so badly written! Really poor stuff, with little awareness of how to use capital letters, not knowing the difference between 'stain' and 'stained' in describing glass, and things like 'it is now offer as a luxurious hotel with lot of its original features'. It also amused me that it says 'this 125 years old house' was 'built in 1899'. Sounds like their arithmetic is a bit dodgy too.

So now they are in the wedding business, it seems. What happened to the 'private' renting, I wonder.

Watching Julian and The Fieldhead on The Hotel Inspector. I remember him from Four in a Bed. He was so delusional on this, and Four in a Bed if I remember correctly,

Enjoyed this week and the best B&B won. I do feel though that the "activities" are getting more and more pointless and not in the least entertaining. (That kickboxing went on forever) Surely there must be some interesting local attractions that would be delighted to host that part of the show for the publicity

Monday

The competition gets underway at the Oak Tree Cottage in Burley, Hampshire, where owner Jacqui Castle and her sidekick Jane Waters hope the homely approach will win the day. Guests Martin and Catherine Crosswaite are not encouraged by the shared facilities, while breakfast served at a communal table is not to the liking of Norman Butcher and Lorraine Watkins.

Tuesday

The second visit of the week is to Bath's The Rising Sun Inn, where owners Lorraine Hawkins and Norman Butcher hope to bring their guests up to standard by having a dress code. Following their feedback on the last visit, Jacqui and Jane take an extra critical eye to the rooms, while Martin and Catherine show their competitive streak during a boules match.

Wednesday

The contestants travel to the Busfeild Arms in East Morton for the third day of the contest, where hosts Martin and Catherine Croswaite pride themselves in giving great Yorkshire hospitality. Jacqui is overwhelmed by the luxury and extras in the rooms, which raises questions about how the owners make a profit. Meanwhile, Martin shocks the group by sharing his stunt motorbike riding past, and later, Patrick feels the pressure of being the final host.

Thursday

The final stopover is at Patrick Duggan's Beatles-themed Epstein House in Liverpool, the former home of band manager Brian Epstein's father. Jacqui and Jane are unimpressed by unpleasant smells in the bedroom, while Martin and Catherine show they will do anything to win during a game of Fab Four charades. At dinner, Patrick shocks his guests when he reveals his idea of the ideal woman. Will it have an effect on their feedback?

Friday

The B&B owners meet for the final time to find out what they've been paid and to settle some scores. Jacqui and Jane from the Oak Tree Cottage want to find out why Norman and Lorraine wouldn't return, while Martin and Catherine from the Busfeild Arms have some explaining to do when it comes to their profit margins. Accusations fly around the table as payments are revealed and the winner is announced.

It's now obvious that the original premise - pay what you think a place is worth - has been lost. It's now pay the asking price, less any deductions for minus points. No hotel is worth over £500 for B&B

Is any B&B worth more than £100 a night at the absolute maximum?

But wasn't it lucky that the contestants all had sufficient cash with them?

They can't even be consistent with their own name, the text tends to have two letter Ls and I noticed at least one photo caption has just the single L
They also seen to take pride in the Bridal on/suite(sic)

I see they're yet to receive their first review

Will take a look at the new crop, thanks for the links.

The production crew supply the cash Pity really, as I doubt many really would've stumped up £500 of their own hard earned for one night and a DIY breakfast!

In the past some competitors have refused to pay significantly more than they would themselves charge - and have been roundly criticised on here for it. So I suppose they now only feel they can underpay where they can justify it. Though that does mean you get some ridiculous 'fines' for a hair or two or a breakfast item thats not quite to your taste...

Evenin' I remember this Irish guy from Hotel Inspector who runs the Beatles hotel. He is a weirdo. I sense fireworks with him.

Jackie is like Abigails Party 2016. Shared bathroom. The room is so cramped full of oversized furniture.
