Eggs Benedict is an American breakfast or brunch dish that consists of two halves of an English muffin, topped with ham, bacon or Canadian bacon; poached eggs, and hollandaise sauce.

I know what eggs benedict is. I never heard it called eggs royale before. I guess it's another Americanism.

It looks no more like meat than the piece of meat, which doesn't really look like an animal does it? just flat slab or a rolled shape.last time I looked at a burger it looked nothing like a cow.
We veggies get this all of the time ( I have listened to meat eaters quizzing me about this for nearly 40 years,) and it got really old in 1978. But as you are spouting about me, I will ask another question. Why is it that if I go to a vegetarian's house they expect me to eat vegetarian food, but if they come to mine they expect me to provide them with vegetarian food when everyone else is eating meat or fish? Can't a vegetarian just provide a piece of chicken for a meat eater? Very one sided, and that is exactly why I only entertain omnivores in my home. |

Old fart and old fart's wife are like their place - old and farty. The gay blokes are lovely, they have a good B&B and seem very fair. Ray needs to sort out his B&B. It's not very nice but he's quite a pleasant, polite and amiable sort of bloke. Donna is a bit of a sour, grumpy woman but her B&B is lovely.
For me, it's Donna's or the gay blokes place to win. |

Sorry about that - not! I guess I am old. A tofu prawn certainly does look like a prawn! Vegetarian bacon certainly tries to look like a piece of meat. But if you want to yawn at my opinion, that is up to you. The Grumpwizard is right isn't he about not being allowed a differing opionion.

Evening All, watched on catch up again Quote:
She got upset when Ray asked if she finds it hard missing her family cause she works so hard.
I suppose it shows you never know people's personal circumstances. It was a bit odd though when she said she 'never sits down' as they'd shown her sitting at her computer (see later comment re Ray and the ironing board) Quote:
Ray chooses something not on the menu.
If I went to someone's home and they'd got something in specially for me, of course I'd have it, at a B&B or hotel, no, I'd have what I fancied, not what they wanted to give me. I thought they handled that well today, even though it isn't particularly hard anyway. That situation is a prime example of the programme blurring the lines between professional judgement and forging friendships. Quote:
What did Ray say was missing in the room? Can't understand what he said.
![]() Nice touch though as he was filmed ironing his shirt and they did say they provide both on request ![]() Quote:
Thundering traffic
, its hardly the Monaco Grand Prix ![]() ![]() As one of the two men said, it's not thundering past at 4am. It's obviously a busy road and I wouldn't like that if I could hear it, but fair play that they provide ear plugs. I think they'd do well to have thicker window coverings, they have fine roman blinds for privacy and curtains, if the curtains were lined and interlined they could be very effective against noise during sleeping hours. We've stayed at a single glazed window hotel in central London and didn't hear a thing. Shame really that they weren't advised on this by their furnishers. Quote:
The two lads have been a really fair couple, no silly moaning, i dont think they have made a fuss all week , i would like them to win based on personality , but i preferred todays B&B

Hopefully Ray will watch it back and take note. He also needs to take swift action. Quote:

I don't have a problem with vegetarian items made to kind of replicate meat items e.g. sausages and burgers because it's less separatist and easier to just put plates on the table that don't mark individuals out. With regard to what people provide for their guests I think it very much depends on a person's reason for being vegetarian. If they choose not to eat meat because they don't like the taste and so on, then they probably don't worry about providing it or about their food being cooked in the same pans as meat products. If their choice is because of ethical beliefs then I understand and respect those beliefs and choices. By the same token I enquire of my guests and cater accordingly. Tonight I thought there were a few small flaws e.g. the dusty ceiling fan (they're a devil to keep cleaning, so out of sight line and prone to spiders in our house) but it looked good. The beds looked comfortable, clean and very crisp; they'd thought about people's comforts and David certainly came into his own in that kitchen. It wasn't particularly to my taste - a bit sterile, but it was all clean, comfortable and well catered for. One major thing that's been glossed over of late is car parking? it's especially important in the town centre venues, otherwise there's a security and cost element to factor in. I don't have a feeling for who's going to win. Sorry, that was a huge catch up

12/16 days for each section? Does that mean for every visit and payment day - 5 days x 12/16 days? That sounds ridiculous.

BIB. So I am probably also about to set myself up in front of the firing squad.
BUT I cannot for the life of me understand why a vegetarian wants something that looks like meat or fish! Vegetarian sausages; vegetarian bacon; "gammon style" vegetarian roast; tofu king prawns. All these are available. But if I didn't want to eat meat or fish for whatever reason, why would I want meals that still looked like dead creatures? |

I thought last nights place was fine. There is 19 staff, and she cant take a day off to be with her grandkids....something not quite right about that.
I think she is probably a control freak, has to do everything herself, and doesnt trust her staff to do it for her correctly. I bet whoever cleaned that bedroom and left dust in the fan will have got a right telling off. There is no need not to be able to have a break. The boys said they have TWO DAYS off a week as they have staff. Isnt that why you have staff lol. Crying over it well its in her hands surely. Its either she is a control freak, or between the two they are useless managers.... I liked the place though it was as I expected. However, I would not want to pay 100.00 a night in shrewsbury on a main road. Not for a bed and breakfast anyway. No it was well presented. BUT the game players were slavering at their mouths when they could complain, they couldnt sleep. So they couldnt sleep at rays crappy place because of a bad mattress, and yet they sleep in one of the cleanest rooms we have had for ages, lovely comfortable bed, clean bedding, everythink you would want, and yet oh my gosh, oh my golly.............. THEY COULDNT SLEEP LOL....... go figure. I know they live near a road, hell I live right by a road, and just up it a bit a railway line. I have DOUBLE GLAZING with the windows shut i never hear traffic. I think the problem here was..... leaving ear plugs out. This intimates to me there is going to be a lot of noise.... so they offer earplugs... daft thing to do. Its like almost saying to someone you wont sleep so we are providing you with ear plugs. I think thats the mistake they made the proprietors. Besides which euwwww i wouldnt want to use them unless they were sealed lol. I think our game players were Number 1 from the Swallow. |

EXACTLY I so agree. Thats why poor Ray unwittingly offered her an Indian style breakfast lol...... its what they would eat themselves. I have had this conversation before with vegetarians. Why do you need to eat quorn in the shape of a CHICKENS breast etc etc, its daft...lol.

Just a thought about people who want veggie food which replicates cadaver and meat products: they are meat-eaters who are trying to cut down on their meat consumption for health reasons. Most of Linda McCartney's food is geared towards people in this category and if it helps them cope then why not.

Its just eggs Benedict with a posh name.
Eggs benedict - muffins, poached eggs, bacon or ham, hollandaise sauce. Eggs royale - as above with smoked salmon instead of bacon. Eggs florentine - as above with spinach instead of bacon. |

For me, it's Donna's or the gay blokes place to win. Donna I can't take to at all. I noticed that when Darren asked for the eggs royale, he pronounced it royal, and she corrected him immediately, not by repeating the word with its French pronunciation, but by actually correcting him to tell him he'd got it wrong. Not very tactfully done, and he did notice it. I think hers was probably the best, all things considered, though a bit too expensive, but I really don't like her. |
