She is right, the prices do reflect the facilities.

They should group their categories better, l think most of them were being kind because she is a nice older lady. There should be similar properties competing against each other.

I'm liking Cameron, he seems genuinely nice and honest. Lauren's coming across as bitchy and annoying.

Looks an odd place for a B&B ,, i bet its just a part time thing she does on the side

yeah,, i would rather see 4 B&B's of about the same price go up against each other rather than a B&B worth £150 a night and a place of about £50

Oh that. I thought it was a naturally occurring process- I remember our honey that we used to buy from the bee man would crystallise after a while.

I agree but the other thing is that these people would not choose to stay at these places so the feedback is harsh because of that.

This is what I always say, it used to be cheaper for those who didn't want to spend too much, but wanted a nice bed and breakfast, not hotel prices, and they were usually in someone's house.

I don't really understand the pricing they have gone to ow, pub B&B's asking for well over £150, it's madness, for a few nights stay, you may as well go abroad!

Trowbridge is a stonkingly dull little town (though the surrounding countryside is pretty) but for years it's been the location of the County Hall and associated council offices. It is (was) the biggest employer. Lots of council employees and any visitors are (or were in years past) likely on per diems rather than straight 'expenses' so at her prices, she may do / did well out of commercial bookings. And if you're away on business on a budget, somewhere like that is probably very acceptable particularly as brekkie is good, included, and the owner and her sister seem lovely and not overwhelming in their attentions.

Trowbridge's only redeeming feature afaIr was a very good fabric and wool shop. Fabric Magic, I think.

It varies as to how fast it crystallises - our 2014 honey is still quite runny but last year's harvest is already slightly crystalline. I think it depends on the level of moisture in the honey when it is taken off the combs and also the temperature it is stored at. We collected our 2014 honey quite early in the season and last year's was later.

Sadly, I think that Fabric magic has closed down I think they still do workshops somewhere else in the town .

Oh that's a shame. I was last there about 4 years ago... shame the renewed interest in sewing (with Sewing Bee) didn't save them. Most of the fabric shops I used to use have closed down over the past 10 years. Fabric is horribly expensive in France and the choice not usually very good.

I've just checked for a website - looks as if they're still up and running...

As pleasant as Sue is, it's a no from me due to the shared bathroom & very small rooms & no double bed in any of them, plus its location put me off, it's a house in an estate that could be anywhere.

Perhaps their guest base is contractors who don't mind sharing the bathroom (I can't imagine cleaning the bathroom after a handful of blokes have used it). Or, for people who are visiting family or friends in the area but they can't stay at their house due to lack of space.

The breakfast looked lovely though and it's cheap.

For some reason 4iab has always been dominated by "destination venues" where people pay top dollar to be pampered for a night or two. Tonight was one of the rare old school B&Bs where you stay becouse you're in the area for other reasons and just want a place to kip and get a good feed in the morning. At £55 for two with a super breakfast they should hang their heads in shame if they underpay her. The competion is for "best value", not "swankiest" after all.

Totally spot on.

She has been going for 15 years so she is doing something right. Some B&B's do not last 2 years.

I agree 100 percent, great post.

Its value for money. God 35.00 for a single room with that massive breakfast. Actually in the last few weeks we have had chefs cooking breakfast, yet for me Sues looked the best all round.

I am hoping she will win as I am sure Cameron will over pay her.
