Kate is just vile
I think Pauline saying after getting to know her across the week would no longer come back to her hotel bearing in mind she wouldn't have know her been critical to everyone was harsh. |

Hands up who would EVER stay at Kate's place now? No, I thought not. As has been said many times on here, the final question should be "if you were the target market for this property would you stay here again". Personally, I would not stay at many of them, simply because I prefer the anonymity and additional facilities that generally come with large hotels. But that is a personal choice, and I can see the attraction of many B&B's on FIAB to the right market. That said, having seen Kate & Carlos, even if I was 100% target match for their property, having seen them on FIAB no way would I stay there. What idiots; another couple who have done themselves no good at all. |

She has probably devalued the place after her appearance on FIAB.

Another series, another lost opportunity to take on board the genius DSForum's feedback.... What will it take for the producers to have a rethink?
I've given up expecting participants to understand that they have a wonderful opportunity to showcase their business for free, although taking part does sound lengthy and complicated, but then it is their business/their baby. It's been going on too long and it is too well known to continue blaming the producers. I suppose I'll read you all when, or possibly IF, there is a new series. What a waste of a potentially brilliant resource to promote tourism in the UK. Depressed now

When will they learn that the brown marks on white loo brushes are rust from the staples that hold the bristles in, not poo. Get a black one and it doesn't show.
. I didn't think to get a black one, so thanks for that! ![]() (Why can't they make them metal free, like dishwashing brushes?) I can't take this programme seriously anymore. I never want to stay at any of them, because I don't want someone faffing round after me, oozing fake ''charm'', etc (Or Not )I hate the activities.(What have they got to do with anything? I want to see what the area has to offer, because that's my main reason for travelling anywhere. And the nit-picking! Get a grip! Edit: posted before I saw Ican'tBeBothered, and I agree! |

Interesting,, what was said ?
"My mum was sitting in front of Bob on the bus yesterday. Don't worry no spoilers. She said he was talking about the show with people who kept asking questions. In Dundee he was saying the mattress in his room was extremely stained and disgusting, not shown on the show. When Kate was staying at The Registry the production team insisted that he had to use the room which he gave her. This is normally used as a single room so he was not too happy at that. Another indication (as we all know!) that the production team do play things. Oh and one morning this week he went out to a tin of beans left on his doorstep - that made me laugh" I now get the beans comment as I only watched Mondays ep

If I owned a B&B, and had a room like the one Bob gave Kate & Carlos, which was normally used as a single, I wouldn't want my potential customers seeing such a room on national TV and thinking that if they booked they might get it as a double room. So I would refuse point blank to give it to other contestants unless there was a singleton amongst them. I would even strip the bed etc so the room could not be used. What is the worst that could happen? Would the production start filming the whole week's episodes again? Of course they wouldn't. Honestly, what are some of these people afraid of. It is their property - just say NO! |

I'm glad K&C didn't win, although they should have come last. She is absolutely out of her mind if she thinks a £120 room and a £70 room should provide the same 'extras' like shower cap, cotton balls, slippers, robe, etc.
It's unfortunate that this show seems to be about the producers manipulating situations for drama when it should be about B&B owners showcasing their place and location. TV is very dumbed down these days, so many shows go for the lowest common denominator. |

This review for The Abertay is from 2010 on TripAdvisor:
"Upon arrival Kate, the "hostess" began by trying to increase the room rate quoted and queried whether we expected breakfast for our 4 children, as "she felt" she should be charging us more for this, even though we had made our booking - for 14 nights - at the advertised rates on her website. The haranguing did not end there - the owner seeing fit to continue to drop hints at every opportunity that she wanted to charge us more for our stay. When we settled in our room (yes one room, although we had been led to believe we would be occupying a Family Suite!) it quickly became apparent that the room was inadequately heated and that the windows may as well have not been there. The heating was switched off at 10pm, even though this was on 6th January and the temperature was -7 degrees Celsius outside. The temperature in the room quickly dropped to around that same level. The oldest of our children is 11 and our youngest just 2 years old. It got so cold they could not sleep and were very upset. When we attempted to question why the heating had been switched off, we were told by the owner (Kate) that a little cold would do our children no harm and that she had been raised in a house that got much colder than we had just experienced! My wife and I have never been so insulted; we were absolutely staggered and appalled at the attitude and callous nature of this vile individual. The owner (Kate) of this guest house does not have any concern for her guests welfare or comfort, her sole concern is extracting as much of your money from you as possible. If this guest house gets any repeat business, it must be from people with masochistic tendencies. We paid for the one night spent there and promptly left having secured accommodation in a nearby Premier Inn for the remaining 13 nights of our stay in Broughty Ferry." ![]()

Had to laugh when Kate kept saying "we". Don't think Carlos had any say in it, he was almost mute!

) but they have no grasp at all of the difference that some or all of the following can have on pricing and value:- location (pub in Blackpool vs country house in small, best kept village) - the building itself (semi- on a housing estate vs quiet town house in a spa town, say) - the quality of the fixtures and fittings: chairs, dressing tables, mirrors - or no bedside table but a lamp - the extras... robes, slippers, shampoo, conditioner, cake or biscuits, instant coffee vs a Nespresso (say), types of tea and infusions, fridges in rooms (which some people hate because they most make a noise) provision of a guest sitting room, tvs, etc. Kate (accompanied by The List if nothing else) came over as somewhat spiteful, vengeful and, overall, not very bright. Just because she supplies something (clock radio ) doesn't mean it adds value to the package. Not a very good week. But I wonder if a lot of good quality owners don't apply any more because they have (finally) caught on to the fact that there's no such thing as a free lunch and you have to be very smart to outwit the desire of the producers to create what they define as good telly. |

You do highlight a facet of 4iaB that I find 'interesting': the number of owners who appear to be capable of running a successful small business (in the main

A while ago the was an episode with a mother and daughter where the mother kept repeating her daughter's name every time she spoke to her, can't remember anything else about them but immediately she jumped into my mind when Bob was "Kirsty this and Kirsty that."
Just checked Eileen and Kristin were horrible. And the daughter's name was Yannika! http://www.channel4.com/programmes/f...mand/55221-038 Episode 36 onwards. |
