I didn't see yesterday's episode and only caught the last 5 minutes of today's but have taken (okay, perhaps unfairly ) an instant dislike of today's hostess. What an ugly nature she has. Based on that 5 minutes, I would never stay at her property, no matter how good it is.

But perhaps the other owners are even worse? Is the horrible egg referred to upthread served by today's or yesterday's hosts? I shall have to go and look for it.

She is alright actually. A bit of a straight talker. She was only responding to the bitchiness of yesterdays hosts whose place was vile.

I agree. She was a straight talker. She knew that yesterday's hosts were being immature and spiteful because of their feedback.

Hated those animals stuck in cages. Birds should be free to fly and snakes..... Hated their restaurant because there was far too much stuff on it. Hated the exotic meats. Were they all frozen? The B&B was ok. It was value for money. Not sure I'd want to stay there though.

The griddle was filthy. Hence the black on the underside of the egg. Professional chefs clean everything including the griddle at the end of every service.

Are you now willing to concede that seeing the feedback in advance of visiting other premises is a fundemental flaw in the show ?

Its interesting how attitudes to caged birds have changed since I was a kid. It was very common back in the '70s - we had a canary, budgies and various finches all in small cages (though they were allowed some 'flying about time'). I feel quite guilty about it now
I'm ok with the exotic meats so long as they are farmed with good welfare practices - can't really see that a crocodile steak or buffalo burger is any different to a pork chop or beef burger.

To concede I'd have to have disagreed with your view in the first place. I don't ever remember doing that.

I probably didn't explain myself well.

I don't like their menu because they have too much stuff on it and I don't think anyone can do good food with such a massive menu. I didn't like the exotic meats because it seemed like it was all frozen. The food served didn't look particulary nice anyway.

I've never eaten exotic meat but would try a buffalo burger. My friend who is married to someome who is Chinese says they eat anything and she always pulls her face as she tells me. She said she tried crocodile and it tasted like sh!t. I'm not sure if she meant literally!

Sorry didn't mean to demean you in any way.

It just seems on this thread that changes to the format are "the elephant in the room" that no one wants to talk about

It's okay.

It might sound logical to have all the feedback on the last day but then there wouldn't be any disgruntled b&bers hell bent on revenge!

In the early days of 3/4IAB the payments were made on the day the guests left the b&b.

I don't remember that !! Was there no "showcase showdown" with that format ?

We have talked about the format - a lot - in the past but it really comes down to what producers want from their shows - or what the majority of viewers apparently want. In the case of most reality shows that is conflict. Conflict delivers viewers - and you see it on these threads: when there's an appalling owner the number of posts double or triple.

Delivering feedback on the day feeds into subsequent revenge and spite and nit-picking as the visits go on and that is the producers' intention, not making the show more fair, or showing more of some beautiful areas surrounding b&bs, etc.

The French version of the show is better - though it still encourages conflict - but on payment day, each couple first sits down with a tablet and actually sees the hairs / dust / moths being found so they can't assert there were no cobwebs or moths... they see them. That does change the dynamics in the round table payment face-off and I think its a better format. Though the French version (Bienvenue Chez Nous, TF1) is a longer show at about 45 minutes vs 4iaB's 23 minutes. And as France is very proud of its heritage and countryside, we do get to see a lot more of the area around each b&b.

From the few I've seen, this series' 4iaB 'activities' - seemingly included only to ramp up the competitiveness between the couples - have reached a new low. And they are repetitive - I'm sure I've seen sausage-making 3 or 4 times now.

They must have had a room in an entirely different part of the establishment, the other two couples scored a ten for how they slept.

This IS the last week of FIAB, isn't it?

I don't think they were being immature and spiteful. Their comments were absolutely on a par with the ones they had received, so ...

The couple with the hotel had only been in business a few months and admitted there was a lot to be done. The couple with the awful menagerie of caged birds and exotic animals, on the other hand, think their place is beyond criticism. It's not.

Looking forward to the Welsh visit. Looks as though it may be the best.

My apologies - I was just being facetious. It's been a pretty dismal week, in my opinion, and the format is becoming more than a bit tedious.

It may or may not be the last of the series - I don't know!

This week has been a little bit tedious for me too, and having just caught up on yesterday's episode, i'm not really feeling FIAB love this week, which i never thought i would hear myself saying after all these years 🙁
