As to wether Penny Crayon is male or female - does it matter? Strangely I'm not actually a small bird with a habit of sticking live amimals on spiky thorn bushes. FWIW quite a few of my femal friends use the term 'mate' - or maybe I should now be worried they are masquerading as women? |

I'm responding on this thread to posts about a TV programme.
However, as an FM on here pointed out earlier in the thread, another of the establishments had feather bedding too and Sue was able to sleep there with no allergic problems what so ever. Have you any idea why? |

Penny, Sue brought up that she had an allergy that prevented her from using feather bedding and made a big issue about a bad reaction she suffered after having to sleep in such at one of the establishments.

The Castle visit was after her allergic reaction. So, if we take the line that the producers are out to make Sue look as bad as possible, its likely Sue mentioned her allergy the the hosts on arrival at the Castle and non-allergenic bedding was provided. Of course this conversation wouldn't have been shown

But we were chaperoned the whole time and weren't allowed to talk about ourselves or our businesses unless we were on camera -we could only chat about the weather etc !! We had no idea what was going to be shown as we don't have a preview ! We seem to draw the short straw with each room allocated to us ! We weren't allowed to look at each other's room whilst filming so it's only during this week that we have seen all the other Fabulous rooms ! Maybe as we needed twin beds it narrowed down the type of room which could be allocated to us ?
In reality if if had similar issues staying in a bed and breakfast I would have had a chat to the owner /asked for clean sheets /another room or a cotton duvet but again we were not allowed to !!!! |

Have you any idea why? I realise that she is a long way from most people's cup of tea but she really isn't a bad person - she is very popular with her customers and friends. It is a TV programme - if anyone honetly believes that things aren't tweaked and edited in order to make controversial/talked about TV then they are incredibly naive. Sue was/is ideal fodder as she says it straight - she doesn't do fake smiley, gushy stuff. It's got everyone talking - job done. |

Look - I know Sue - I'm not best mates or even that matey with her. She is straight talking and down to earth. From what I have heard (my OH has seen and spoken to her since) she spent hours being filmed and interviewed - at least one scene (the road works one) her conversation was cut and spliced. I have no doubt whatsoever that she whinged about the feather bedding - the fact is it was just one thing amongst a load of other stuff negative and positive that she said. No body put words into her mouth but the questions were framed and phrased to bring out negativity.

Whatever they are like in real life, they came across as mean-spirited and unpleasantly negative, and they made some very damaging remarks about others' places. They have done themselves no favours, and it's hardly consolation for lost B&B business to say that the tea shop is temporarily full of locals as a result of the programme, all having a jolly good chuckle. They had those customers anyway, and threw away the opportunity to impress potential customers from outside their area. |

I don't often post but I need to ask, does one sign away all your rights when you sign a contract to go on FIAB?
How can anyone stop you from exercising your right to speak to someone about any subject you choose? Will they physically prevent you from leaving the room? When you sign up do you become an indentured servant that gives some runner from a TV production company the right to order you about? If this is the case more fool you for taking part, if not stand up for yourself. |

Sue's comments on this were evasive and contradictory. She knew she was allergic so she took an anti-histamine but she didn't know she was allergic. She didn't comment on the pillows at the time because she'd taken an anti-histamine, or was it that she was told by the crew she couldn't comment - but then she didn't know she was allergic to feathers. Or did she?

I was just pulling this persons chain, and actually said they hadnt replied to the POST I put on about my thoughts...on this page answering her..... Nothing sinister in it. Just messing about as quite frankly i am sick to death of people defending their virtue...lol MATE.... Its derogatory isnt it.... not nice, and I dont think a women an older one anyone would use the term....... like that i suppose unless they were from aussie. I have lived a long time in this world and never once have I heard a female friend call me MATE in such a way.......... bitch maybe lol.... Anyway i was Answering Tommo's post. PENNY WROTE: BTW Penny, if you know Sue and her business so well, surely you also know the name is Lilly not Lily? Actually you couldn't be more wrong - she's been stacked out all week. And if you want to be so childish as to question whether I know Sue or not simply because of a spelling error then you fill your boots mate. AND TOMMO REPLIED..... Next week and the following months will tell. ![]() Anyway I'm done here - I'm not sure who I'm supposed to be or who I'm supposedly trying to fool I'm just giving my view on it. All a storm in a tea cup. As far as I'm aware all the contestants have chatted since and there's no hard feelings - (I could be wrong on that but that's what I heard) - I'm sure they all know that they put their reputations on the line. Sue and Lou haven't come out well but I honestly don't foresee any lasting damage (much to the disappointment of many). I'm sure they all work hard - some come over kinder/nicer/fairer - that's what the show is about. Good luck to all of them. |

IF she was denied to speak to someone about changing her beding then she can sue the production company for failing in their 'duty of care' towards the contestants.
But it's sunday so that means it's time to move onto the next week and speculate about what's going to happen! (Stray hairs are a given )

Yes things are edited and tweaked and tweaked. The FMs on this forum are fully aware of that. They are also aware that the canny B&B proprietors play that to their own advantage. We are described as naive by Penny Crayon. But surely the naive one is Sue if she didn't realise what a golden opportunity for her business this was, and how she could conversely easily dig her own hole and pull the earth in behind her. Didn't she watch a single episode of FIAB before agreeing to appear? If she did she is naive. If she didn't she is equally naive. |

Are we to believe that this sheet was so dirty she had to sleep on TOWELS and was FORCED TO DO SO BY THE CREW. After all people seem to forget it was all BEING FILMED WASNT IT....so why couldnt she simply ask for the bed to be changed. Anyway we never actually saw her SLEEPING ON TOWELS now did we lol....

The debate's a bit done to death now really isn't it.
We all know it takes days and days to film stuff (for any show not just this one) and that it's edited down, cut and spliced so that something mild can become contentious, that things aren't always what they seem. I don't have any doubt that people who appear beyond the pale on our screens are perfectly pleasant to their family, friends and customers, or at least for the most part. Generally paying guests have little interaction with hosts or managers, not unless a problem manifests itself and then all the guest cares about is the level of customer service and a polite encounter. If they're good at their jobs then those kind of situations will be few and far between. What people are like behind the scenes isn't something guests have to be overly concerned about. Again, with 4iaB they blur the lines between professional and over familiar. They blur the lines by demanding the would you stay again question is based solely on that particular room and that particular experience...than again they all know that's the premise, so in some cases don't get uptight about it. In others there's more to it and grudges start. Would any of us really nit pick over lack of a fridge in a room and think it should therefore be £10 cheaper? I've stayed somewhere when chilled milk's been left for us in a vacuum flask and that was perfectly acceptable. Really the competitors should be savvy enough to realize they have to take personal responsibility and not fall prey to strenuous encouragement by the crew. If they mark harshly, or underpay significantly on a tenuous premise, then it's their own actions that're going to bite them on the backside. Own it and move on. Sounds like we're in for the same old, same old though this coming week
