I take exception to that statement.
Everytime i buy a fishing license the money is used for preservation and conservation efforts to ensure that fish species thrive and survive... A real angler which I am respects the fish, and have to follow rules for fishing in the lakes to catch carp. We are legally NOT allowed to use barbaric hooks they were outlawed. Every fish that comes onto the bank is giving respect, and gently put back for another day.
IF there were no anglers doing this sport, there would be little fish left in our rivers and lakes, because they would be overrun, and become unhealthy, and the lakes would be tangled with weed and no oxygen. By paying for a licence all these lakes and rivers are kept clean and more fish survive.
NOT only that it would become a free for all and people would be fishing and ruining the river banks, and taking stock away, since the arrival of many Easter European people they are doing so illegally and eating our carp.
It is a sport granted but no blood is exchanged. I have never seen blood when I have caught a fish.
However, FISHING for food, is different but you still need to pay for the licences. ITS NOT FREE.
The activity last night was to fish for their food.
Granted personally perhaps the end should have been edited, but again the production crew did it for affect.
The point being too this was a SPECIAL FISH FARM for catching fish to eat. They have one in Bibury near where I live. The trout are there for people to catch a fish and take it home to eat it. They would not be there for 20 years anyway.
These trout farms are there to restock rivers and lakes, and also for people to learn about the fish, but also fish for them too.

Fish came from the river and sea. If you eat fish, it has to be killed.
I would rather club a fish quickly then just leave it on the river bank to slowly suffocate, then eat it.
BILLIONS of fish every year are taken out of the sea, and left in holds and die by suffocation. Yet people eat fish all the time, even VEGETARIANS eat fish.
I take exception to it being called a blood sport, because a true angler is there to support the environment and partake in a day out hoping they might actually say hello to a few carp in the day. BUT EVERYONE that is catched is put back for another day. The old saying they feel pain has been discounted by several scientists, as the lip contains no nerves in a fish.
Most days out fishing you dont catch anything anyway.
