Beck Hall looks great and I'd stay there at the drop of a hat but I'm surprised that none of the contestants picked up on what looks like an obvious negative. I don't think you can park directly outside the entrance.

We saw one pair of contestants walking over a little stone foot bridge with their wheelie case towards parked cars. A quick check of Google maps shows that this appears to be the only entrance to the Hall and there is no direct vehicular access. It's not very far to walk granted but, if it is the case, when folk are down scoring for literally the slightest perceived negative then I would have thought this would have been used to the a game players advantage.

A few of the more negative reviews for Beck Hall mentioned the dark car park and the bridge. But thats the nature of the village. I stayed in Malham one time where I missed out on the parking so had to park about 10 minutes away in the big public car park.

As no one mentioned access (under the Facilities heading) I'm guessing it's not a big deal. Because, as you say GW, normally the slightest thing is seized upon as a reason to deduct points. The website says there is an onsite car park and - bearing in mind this is an 18 room hotel - it's not unusual not to be able to park directly outside reception... I've visited plenty of hotels where the reception is a few minutes walk from the car park. There's no accessibility statement on the website though (that I spotted) which surprised me.

And I'm guessing that not all the rooms are let to dog owners - ie, there's a maximum number of dogs allowed at any one time. Otherwise there'd be the potential for 18+ dogs to be in the hotel and I doubt that would be manageable. Also, it's possible that some rooms are never let to guests travelling with dogs otherwise you'd risk excluding bookings from anyone with a pet allergy.

Interesting thanks. I never even thought of lack of lighting. I've staid at the Buck Inn and we had no problem parking there thankfully.

True but at most places you'd surely be able to at least drive to the entrance to dump cases etc before parking the car. Here you can't even do that.

When Louise and Andy were pondering Helen's moan about dog hair, they didn't seem to be sure as to whether the room had been used as a doggy one or not.
Though I'm not sure an allergic person would book into a dog-friendly place anyhow

Theres a link to google earth on their website Beck Hall

It looks like the car park is to the left over the beck, but there is an access road from the right - though its mainly obscured by trees! So I'd be surprised if you couldn't dump luggage if you wished. I can't see how a hotel could function if all the food/drink/furniture had to go over that bridge...

We have been invited over xmas period to Dorset, we have a dog, although he goes in kennels when we go on holiday abroad, I don't fancy paying out over the xmas period, anyway we googled pet friendly hotels in the area and there is absolutely loads so it must be good business, we even looked at the Burnly Arms where the 2 gays guys run from the other week, but it was a bit far from where we wanted, we have booked a harbourside hotel in poole with a harbour view, they have 2 rooms set aside for pets and owners, so must be popular business.

Those 2 women from skeggy oh dear here we go again, as its been said 1st to go then nasty the rest of the week, coke for breakfast no wonder she hasn't got any front teeth at her age, awful women again.

I really liked the couple and their place last night.

I'd tried to zoom in as far as possible but you don't get too close unfortunately. You'd think though that if there was any form of track/road that took you to the property, especially the front door, it would have been used for the programme. There's also a lawn they could use as a car park without effecting the loads of outside seating or lovely river bank if you could get a vehicle in there.

I'm sure supplies would be trollied in over the bridge. It would probably be easier getting furniture in there than to many blocks of flats.

There is probably access to a trade entrance for supplies etc.

Well so far I would say that Beck Hall deserves first place out of the two we have so far seen, but as we know there is a high likelyhood that nasty tactics will be at play.

If there was anything to suggest that the owners were over-focussed on the dog side of the business, I missed it too and thought the comments were odd. The property looked lovely - well-designed, clean, airy in the public areas... and the sort of place I'd enjoy staying with or without my dog. Nice owners who don't appear to think they have to be Mr or Mrs Personality with a sideline in 'witty banter' and rooms well-priced. Works for me.

And what's with all the cleavage shots last week and this... Unless the show is trying to demonstrate some sort of (inverse) correlation between bra size and IQ...
In which case I am dumber than a slug.

Well I'm visiting Malham again next spring - I may well pop in for afternoon tea if I remember, I doubt I'd ever darken the Kings Heads doors if ever I were in the vicinity!

Grump Wizard - there is a tarmac track leading directly south of the Hall which then bends to the right and is lost in the trees. I cant think of any reason for it to be there except to provide access to the road marked "Pennine way".
As to why 4iab didn't just drop them off at the door - this is 4iab! Of course they'll be seen trooping over the bridge! The only wonder is why none of the moaners complained about it
