I just don't get why everyone gets themselves so worked up over this dreary singer. I don't get it all the fuss.
If someone can explain her appeal I'd be grateful, because to me she represents the kind of music I'd expect to hear in M&S.
Have I missed something ?

I'm the same I gotta say, I must be one of the select few in the UK that's never listened or desire to listen to 21

Must be the reason I'm so disinterested in q4 as artists seem to be steering clear of releasing alongside her, I don't think this kind of hype overload is likely to end too well either

I've never felt inclined to listen to one of her albums. Some of her singles are good I suppose.

before you start believing in your own superiority in going against the grain it's worth pointing out 65m people in the UK haven't bought 21, so you're still a long way in the majority

Not forgetting the 6.97 billion people worldwide who didn't buy the album. You're just conformists, really

Adele is dull and dreary as a singer and doesn't seem to be a nice person either

Her music is hyped to high heavens when its mostly just bland Motown pop and ballads. Nothing special, her voice is nothing special, but she is talented. I'll give her that.

I really like her music. I prefer her first album to her second though. Her first one felt really raw, whereas her second one felt slightly overproduced and a bit too polished, obviously due to the success of her first album. I think why she has done so well is because people can relate to her music. Both albums remind me of really difficult and emotional relationships that I have been in. I like a wide variety of different music from dub step to house to rnb. Adele's sound isn't something I can listen to for months on end, but I go through periods where I will absolutely play her music non stop...but I do that with other artists too and am currently doing it with MJ (playing all his underrated and lesser known stuff). I think she's fantastic and she deserves all the success she's had. I do think she's under a lot of pressure though for this next album.

Except it isn't.

Her next album release yes but both 19 and 21 were your run of the mill album releases. What happened with 21 means her third album is receiving a lot of hype.

As above. No OP you're firmly in the majority when it comes to Adele's album. IE far more people didn't buy it than did buy it.

You can use this argument to pick any album and trash it

Exactly.

Whatever artist it is you don't 'get' you can. Rest assured you're in the majority with not getting them.

So why start a thread about it? I don't get boy bands. Any of them. From Take That and NKOTB when I was a teen to 1D now. But I don't feel the need to start a thread about every popular artist I'm not personally a fan of. .

Does the OP really think themselves SO unique that they're the only person in the UK who isn't a fan of Adele.

I can't say I like or dislike her. She just leaves me cold really. I liked that song Chasing Pavements and Skyfall is ok. Other than that though I can really take or leave her music. I agree she's been extremely overhyped for such an average singer but I guess there are worse artists than her who have been just as over hyped (like Katy Perry) who (in my opinion) don't really deserve such a fuss being made over them. Adele is talented, sure, she's just not an artist that moves me in anyway.

I really like the snippet that was played the other night during X Factor.

However, I've never got the hype. 21 was very overhyped in my opinion. Decent album, but not this masterpiece people always go on about.

I think a lot of it was timing. I remember seeing articles at the time describing how she was the "anti-Gaga". In other words, people were bored of Gaga and the industry's theatrics in general and Adele was the opposite of that and it all kind of caught on.

I've heard some of her singles but have no desire to listen to any of her albums. From what I've heard her music is all a bit samey and boring, but I can appreciate she is talented.

Ditto.

I find the fuss about Adele a little puzzling tbh but could eat M&S food every day of my life
