With Christmas coming up, look out for her in the M&S ads, stuffing profiteroles under a tree.

I think Adele and a few others benefitted greatly from Amy Winehouse's popularity. Amy was retro but fresh and immensely talented. So we got a host of quirky young British women with voices from the past trying to emulate what she had done.

I really, really liked Chasing Pavements - the song, the video, the voice; everything. Everything since then, however, seems to have been just a repeat of same.

Also, she REALLY needs to get over whatever break up it was that seems to constitute the lyrical structure of pretty much everything she creates. Taylor Swift gets a lot of criticism for only writing about ex's, break-ups etc. How is Adele different?

Of course, Adele has more talent in her little finger, for me, than the Swift girl has in her entire body; but neither really float my boat.

I presume it's because Adele's lyrics are much more mature* and she doesn't have the history of famous boyfriends Taylor Swift had.

With regards to getting over that breakup - how do you know she hasn't? Not being confrontational lol, I just mean we've heard a snippet of one song from her new album, it's hardly like we *know* she's released another album complaining about someone dumping her.

*I say this as a huge Taylor Swift fan!

I think 21 deserved all the hype and success it had. I think it's a brilliant album.

I don't know why people feel the need to try and work out why others like something they don't, or vice versa. Not everyone likes the same things, that's just life.

she's created a niche, it's the smartest thing an artist can do. There's no point moaning about what she's not, in that "why doesn't she cheer up", "it's so depressing", , why so many ballads" etc? that people do.

not everything need be bright, colourful and poppy, though there's thousands of interchangeable pop girls out there doing that, if you want that stuff. Adele doing her thing isn't going to make Meghan and her mates disappear. Sadly

It's all about life, her life, I love her voice. Taylor Swift is so teenage, her lyrics are so immature whereas Adele is so more mature. Adele appeals to all ages, Swift well she's aimed at the kids.

Lol she hasn' sold one copy of '25' yet and the detractors are out in force already. At least these sort of threads took a few months to appear after the release of '21' but seems like 'the campaign' has started much earlier this time around.....

Some people just don't get the hype. Her latest album may not be out yet, but there's a lot of buzz surrounding it.

I think she has a really good voice but lots of the songs themselves are a little samey and unexciting.

Like Titanic at the cinema and 50 Shade of Grey on paper 21 entered female folklore and absolutely must by seen/read/listened too - and most men are left shrugging their shoulders, thinking 'huh, how did this get so popular'?

This sums up my feelings about her music too.

I'm expecting the press to go mental when "25" is released.

Is she really calling her new album 25? She's getting a bit predictable with these number titled albums now, isn't she? Thought she'd come up with a more original title, at least!

I think a lot of people would be more disappointed now if she didn't! It's her trend. I like it.

Just like we're probably all expecting Ed Sheeran's next album to be called Division or Subtract

Adele. New Album. Yawn.

Sam Smith. Bond Theme. Yawn.

Take my advice, switch of the radio, Spotify, in fact switch off everything and go out to watch some great original music at your local music venue before it's too late.
Have you seen the news, the small music venues which help to nurture new bands are closing, before long we'll be relying on X Factor and Brit School for all our music. It#ll be HELL!

As a female, I was left shrugging my shoulders and thinking 'huh' over all of the things you mention

I don't get it either but not everyone will, just ignore the over the top hype (if possible lol) and listen to the music you like.

Her voice is very distinctive so people always remember her songs. Plus she has a knack for writing songs that people relate to, of any age. Also while she is pretty, she's not overtly sexual at all so girls and older audiences approve of her. She appeals to pretty much every audience under the sun, hence the massive sales longevity of 21 and 19.

But above all else though she just makes good music. Yeah sure lazy people can say it's like something you hear in M&S, but you'd be hard pressed to find many songs better than Rolling In The Deep that have been released in the last decade or so.

I don't mind her previous songs, but I just don't get all the hype in the media about her, and that she's the nation's treasure/sweetheat blah blah. In my opinion, she is not THAT great.

Yeah, it's a stonking tune sung incredibly well. Plus it's very hard to categorise, a theory borne out by the fact that at US radio (incredibly diverse and fractured unlike here) it was the biggest 'crossover' song in the last 25 years.

OP you're not the only one. I've never got the hype with Adele. Her voice is nothing special and her songs are bland and dreary.

She really made 2011 boring and miserable for me as her songs where everywhere! it seemed I couldn't escape them

I only like skyfall.

I would definately say she's over rated, a bit like Amy Winehouse.
