Of course not everyone who goes to Brit School goes on to be famous, but the BS isn't always about singers, you know.
I'm not going to start going on about her use of auto tune but I know she uses it live, so don't be fooled into thinking what you hear is all her |

Adele. New Album. Yawn.
Sam Smith. Bond Theme. Yawn. Take my advice, switch of the radio, Spotify, in fact switch off everything and go out to watch some great original music at your local music venue before it's too late. Have you seen the news, the small music venues which help to nurture new bands are closing, before long we'll be relying on X Factor and Brit School for all our music. It#ll be HELL! Quote:
oh come on! what a ridiculous statement
I spend a lot of time playing festivals and music venues (not that there's many left) and I can tell you that there's mar more talented people struggling, looking for that elusive break. Getting that break is a matter of hard work and luck, but no matter how hard you work, luck is still the biggest factor. Unless. Unless you happen to do well on X-Factor or go to the Brit School, which is what Adele did. Adele hardly ever performs live, you've got to ask yourself why. Is it because her voice has to be corrected, warmed and auto-tuned? If she hadn't taken the easy path of Brit School, she'd have to have worked her way up by playing dingy pubs and clubs and learn the hard way, but she's had it all handed to her on a plate. By the way, I noticed that you made a comment about how good you thought Will Young was after seeing him perform at a festival. The only reason he has a career is because of Pop Idol, but something tells me you wouldn't have talked sh! it to his face about talent shows. |

Now first of all I asked a question, I didn't pose a statement. But as it goes, no I don't think she's got an amazing voice, it's above average, but that's it. she has to learn that shouting doesn't equal passion, you can bring passion to a song in different ways. I'm not going to start going on about her use of auto tune but I know she uses it live, so don't be fooled into thinking what you hear is all her I know it was a question, in which case are you saying that you don't think that's the reason? It was just a random, plucked out of thin air? Would it also be the first question you would ask of Kate Bush? I would take the whole auto-tune thing with a pinch of salt - it doesn't sound like it to me. It may be that she has used it, but that probably isn't the same as saying she needs to use it to sound good, and uses it all the time. Someone posted above that her voice has a "digital edge to it" - I disagree. it just sounds completely crystal a lot of the time. That's not autotune - that's just a great voice. But to be clear - are you saying she is using autotune in that performance I posted a link to? |

I've seen her live and I was front row. No auto tune used whatsoever.

It's the over promotion and OTT gushing praise from the media that drives me mad.

I think 21 deserved all the hype and success it had. I think it's a brilliant album.
I don't know why people feel the need to try and work out why others like something they don't, or vice versa. Not everyone likes the same things, that's just life. Completely and utterly spot on.

That's hardly over promotion to me! It's the public that do it for her. One song and the whole world goes crazy - that's pretty damn impressive to me. Congratulations to her |

What gushing praise is this anyway? I manage to get through most days without being overly exposed to gushing raise of Adele. Maybe I don't keep my ears peeled to the same ground as you though. What would you say were the three most gushing bits of over promotion you're seen about the new song? |

To be fair, that says a lot more about you than it says about Adele.

Don't mind some of Adeles music but just wish sites like DS would tone it down a bit with the articles

For some reason bland mediocre dreary music is very popular. I think people don't like being challenged. Adele, Sam Smith, Ed Sheeran...these are very bland artists.
The following artists make exciting music: Fall Out Boy, Deftones, Chvrches, Foals. |

It's a bit like mass hysteria
.I like her and I'll buy the album but, come on , the heaped praise is well OTT.It's really not that dissimilar to other stuff out there. |

Adele is far from original she makes good honest music that connects with a mass audience as it is simply relatable and she has a talent enough to back it. Is she as forward thinking as Kate Bush no is she any the worse for it of course not. If people dislike her switch off turn over and listen to whatever ''real music you like''. |

I think Adele and a few others benefitted greatly from Amy Winehouse's popularity. Amy was retro but fresh and immensely talented. So we got a host of quirky young British women with voices from the past trying to emulate what she had done.
I really, really liked Chasing Pavements - the song, the video, the voice; everything. Everything since then, however, seems to have been just a repeat of same. Also, she REALLY needs to get over whatever break up it was that seems to constitute the lyrical structure of pretty much everything she creates. Taylor Swift gets a lot of criticism for only writing about ex's, break-ups etc. How is Adele different? Of course, Adele has more talent in her little finger, for me, than the Swift girl has in her entire body; but neither really float my boat. It's just that's that break up made her a multi millionaire & now she's repeating the formula to extract as much interest out of it that she can. I hope there's more interesting stuff on her album because it's a case if the same old same old here. |

I know its not just about singers, but there are famous people in parts of the performing arts other than singers you know.
I know it was a question, in which case are you saying that you don't think that's the reason? It was just a random, plucked out of thin air? I'm no autotune expert but I dont believe any of her performaces is autotune, it would have been leaked, would have been world news. Anybody who mentions autotune and Adele in the same sentence have also probably mentioned they has toured many festivals extensivly, such fantastic singer themselves who have had many multiple number ones in various countries world wide. My personal opinion of these people is that they are either sado's or jealous so and so's Anyway, its a great song but my personal favourite live version from a radio studio is ( dont you think that if it was autotuned it would have been leaked from such performances as this by the sound engineer ) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-fmCoUjOMXU |

I do like some Adele tracks but I'd be a happy man if I never had to hear Someone Like You ever again.

Another wtf thread. And only one week in.
![]() Music is subjective. and you don't get the hype. Ok. Here's what to do. Just turn off the station or don't watch the youtube video. It's pretty easy really. Ive managed to avoid a lot of crappy music that way. On a side note, I see 80 plus shows a year and I can say beyond a doubt that Adele does not use auto tune for her vocals (Ive seen her 6 times live since 2008). You can believe that or not. I don't care at all. |

DS has 4 articles about Adele on the home page, fair enough she released new music today so there's going to be lots of articles about her but it's a little bit overkill..
Don't mind some of Adeles music but just wish sites like DS would tone it down a bit with the articles ![]() I always find it a bit odd that people say they don't like that sort of thing, while visiting the sorts of places they are most likely to see that sort of thing. And take the time to fuel it further by posting on forums about it. |

Every one of Ed Sheeran's songs sound the same. I never knew of him until The Hobbit. Now no matter what song I hear of his I keep relating to The Hobbit.
Don't get me wrong some of his stuff is nice but it is a bit all samey. Simply Red were the days! The variety is less now, mainly EDM, boring power ballads, bland R & B & occasionally a guitar band. There is much less choice in the mainstream now. Who'd have thunk it in the Internet era?? |

Like many others I just don't get the Adele thing. Average singer of dull songs IMO. I know its difficult when you're my age to appreciate current artistes and I do consider myself very lucky to have been around during (the latter part of ) Ella and Sarah Vaughn, Dusty, Annie Lennox, Karen Carpenter, Tracey Thorn etc. Voices that can break your heart. The only female singers I have rated in recent years are Duffy and Rumer.
