Only for the body, and only if you dance fairly seriously.

For the brain, it's great! http://socialdance.stanford.edu/syllabi/smarter.htm

That really is quite something for a man of his age.
I hope he continues to do well.

I wonder if the BBC pay for the operations when their judges have surgery mid-show. Or arrange luxurious aftercare e,g. chaffeurs and on-demand food.

There must be a reason for Craig and Len scheduling their surgeries mid-show, of all times.

I can't see any reason why they would? Have you been reading the Daily Mail too much?

The Daily Mail believe (and print) any story they are told about the BBC however ridiculous. I rarely read anything they have about the BBC because I know it is going to be rubbish.

Its also ridiculous to rubbish everything printed by papers like the DM, Sun,Mirror etc . A greater percentage of what they print is true .

In fact its a very good question posed by pasodabble . Curious why Len and Craig waited till SCD started to have their ops . As Darcey seems next in line to have a hip done, I wonder will she .

Hip and knee operations are done regularly and lots of people have them.

Perhaps they just took the first time slot available rather than decline, suffer through the pain and lack of mobility that comea with hip and knee problems and hope another time opens up when they are not doing anything? Most people have to arrange their life around the surgeon's schedule, not the other way around. (unless it's possible to jump the queue in Britain - if you're rich? I don't know so feel free to correct me on this.)

I try to avoid rubbishing everything in the Mail. You often see people writing that something must be lies because of being in there so I something look up the local newspaper where a story originated to show that it is not a Mail lie. But when it comes to the BBC they do publish some real rubbish.

I doubt whether he was waiting for a NHS bed but he might have had to wait some weeks which got into the start of the series or perhaps his knee got worse and they brought the operation forward.

Some newspapers 'rubbish' BBC constantly.

Worldwide the Daily Mail is the leading British news webpage, closely followed by the BBC. (Rather have the rest of the world see Britain through the BBC's webpage than the Daily Mail's!)

The Sun and The Times and a chunk of Sky TV owned by News Corporation - founded by Rupert Murdoch. (Now called 21st Century Fox and News Corp).

Mail, Sun and Times's opinions of BBC - like asking Tesco for its views on Sainsbury's.

(Wish Len well and hope they give him a comfy throne - like they did for Craig )

You need something comfortable to sit on following a hip op, but not for a knee.

If its been straightforward, he should be fine. He is unlikely to be dancing, but should be getting around OK. Probably with crutches, but that may well be edited out.

I've had knee replacements!!!

I'm glad it's all gone well. It seems very soon to be on live TV and such a long show. I hope he's ok and it goes well for him tonight, and he's not too grumpy because he's pushed himself to be back before he's ready.

How's he going to get up the stairs for 'Len's lense' ?

I had knee replacement on 13th october and still can't sit comfortably for a long time. I need to put my leg up fairly often so fair play to him sitting through that. I am only on ibrufen and paracetamol but do need that to take the edge off, still need a crutch to walk.

I had the other knee done 6 months ago and it still doesn't feel right yet, tight around the knee yet not swollen, iIhope one day it will feel normal. I was hampered recovering from it as the other knee was deteriorating very quickly so hope tthis onewill improve quicker.
It does vary greatly from person to person and a lot can depend on how good your quads are beforehand so I would think dancers would have a good start. There are also custom made knees if you can afford themwhich are supposed to be better.

Len seemed to be elevated in his seating today and stiffer in the back. I assume that had something to do with his operation.

From my knee replacement experiences and Len's eyes, I would say he was still on Tramodil. Had it after the first one, felt "great", no pain and sliced off the top of a finger when chopping veg (husband had sharpened all the knives while I was in hospital). Couldn't be bothered going to A&E so fixed it back on with steristrips. Poor husband was horrified but hey, I felt fine!! After the second knee, I was on different drugs when I came home and it was only then I realised how out of it I was on Tramadol, my eyes looked like I was an extra in"Trainspoting" and I'm pretty sure that Len must be on that!
PS my finger tip healed but has no feeling in it

Can I ask how you are doing now and how long ago you had your ops? Do you have a decent walking gait and do the new knees feel reasonably normal?

I thought Len must be on something strong or I am just a baby with pain. He was definitely on a high padded seat and seemed to be often leaning off to one side relieving pressure I guess as your thigh can ache really badly as well as the knee. Bending mine to get into the car 4 days after op was painful so sitting a long time with it bent iI am sure you would need some pretty strong painkillers.

Everyone's different. I hate to say it, but some people never feel normal. My new knee felt like my own after 6 weeks. Done 12 years ago now, and I often forget it's not mine - except when I'm stupid enough to try and kneel on it. There's debate about whether you should or shouldn't, but if you do, you're putting weight on the scar tissue and it feels like you're kneeling on a walnut - very painful.

Len did look very uncomfortable.

I can put up with the not feeling normal bit as long was they are functioning which the first one is. My husband had one done 6years ago, had 12 weeks off as he was in a manual job but then was straight back up and down stairs all day and on and off forklift. By week 9 he was working in the garden even climbing a tree to trim it and he can kneel on his with no bother.

My experience bass been very different but I have high hopes and feel lucky that I got in to get them done before I was unable to walk at all. I had a sympathetic surgeon who did the first on PPP as I was covered by work, the second on NHS as I had retired but he helped me get through choose and book process that I knew nothing about. Same private hospital for both.

I wonder if Len went NHS route though I doubt it.
