Appreciation Threads leave me at risk of tasty specimens
Trumbles
20-10-2015
Mostly at naps time, obviously, and when Brazilian heat is on the cards. But yes, it seems my Big Brother knowledge is enough to pull people (like Imogen for example - I was once known as her role in those spaces, nudge-nudge wink-wink) except in Moscow where they are of course too fluffeh. Boo.

My knowledge only extends to British Big Brother, but then if people need to reference the Nazis to discuss the international versions I think I'll leave it that way. Still, paw prints are hilarious.

In other news, you know the section of General Discussion set aside for big body hair? People have been talking about the Avengers on there. I love that.

Confused? You're not the only one. I went googling my username together with Big Brother and this cropped up:

(Disclaimer: So far as I can see it's harmless but it doesn't strike me as completely trustworthy so if anyone has fears about malware make your own decisions.)

Oh dear, a week and nearly 600 views without even so much as a 'WTF?' comment.

Possibly the idea that the site might have malware on it (unlikely) wasn't helpful. Here is the text of what was on the page:

I started the thread partly because I don't understand why it's there. Does anyone have a good idea? Perhaps the company decided to sweep up a random selection of words from DigitalSpy as a place-holder or to somehow snag views?

Anyway, I added my own best interpretation of the word salad in the first post for my own - and apparently no one else's - amusement.

It does remind me of the sort of "stream-of-consciousness" stuff I've seen in spam emails I get, but then again I never understood that either.

Yes it does – and me neither. I quite enjoy spam though (except the tinned sort).

I had an email this week actually, offering me a nameless home-based job paying £45,000-75,000, for which my potential employer thought I would be 'an excellent match'. This turned out to be a rather backhanded compliment as later in the email the job requirements were given as 'no specific skills or experience'. My favourite bit though was the opener:

"Hello Dear Candidate,

"My name is %fl_name%. I represent our company."

You have to be very bold as a company to employ someone as your representative who's followed Prince's example.

That's Photobucket alone – I'm not even sure if they'd tell me if there was a sale of a framed version. The idea of copyright seems alien to them. They've become a much scammier outfit generally than when I joined up.

There's not much to be said in favour of buying a framed version of the site at that price except that if you're buying it as a birthday present you can be pretty confident no one will duplicate.

You mean that you were afraid two Helen figures would be insufficient garnish for your Steven figure? Never fear!

HasBrother™ will happily insert a full dozen into the wall cavities of your house without charge (or warning) from whence they will erupt at some time in the future to delight you and your friends!

Happy Helenwe'en!

And there was me thinking you were getting better.

Yep. The internet is not a safe place and everybody needs to take precautions. Which all becomes very pointless when the companies we place our trust in seem useless at taking similar precautions.

Helenwe'en! Lol. I actually like Helen. Granted I never watched her year of BB. Wonder would my opinion of her change if I did?

Well, she was one of the reasons I stopped watching BB15 (a first for me). Although the main reason was to do with BB rigging the show - which just happened to have a lot to do with it being impossible for Helen to leave, no matter what.
(The references are to the BB15 Action Figures thread if you were wondering.)

Got the reference, but probably more from the BB16 version as I'm more familiar with that seasons cast (yeah, probably not something to boast about ).

Generally speaking, manipulation on these shows is a bad thing as it takes power away from viewers. In some cases though, it can be hilarious as it generates faux outrage among the smug, self righteous mob. Personally speaking, I just feel like I would probably strongly dislike Helen if I watched BB15 so I've purposely avoided it completely.

It sure seems very sad when a thread is opened talking absolute rubbish.

Can't work out what this thread is even about.

What has this got to do with appreciation threads.

Yes I thought you'd seen the BB16 one but maybe hadn't clicked back to the previous one… so I used it as an excuse to link back to my own thread.

I won't inquire too closely as to what qualifies a person for that mob - I'll just choose to assume that it can't possibly include me...

Trouble for me was: I'm a loyal Big Brother viewer, so that even if I'm not enjoying a few HL shows I keep watching anyway in the hope that watching the series as a whole will feel worth it. BB15 just seemed too distorted to count as BB for me so I just gave up.

Ah, the ostrich technique – best avoided but I have been guilty of it.
