Totally DEAD @ Selina using the deaths of her parents and her dogs to get a discount.

What a bullshit week overall. Feel bad for Jenny.

You thought she was being serious? It seemed pretty clear that she was making tongue-in-cheek exaggerations to get a discount. She and the chef both knew it.

You do realise how much the UK contestans get slagged off on here!

Your right she is obnoxious

Your complaining because we take the P out of stereotypes and you're just playing up to one

Show me a post in which anyone criticized a candidate by saying "typical XXXX" other than where XXXX=Americans. You take the p out of people, but not by referring to their ethnic or geographical origins.

AS made it clear that the whole point of doing the treasure-hunt task in 2 countries was because some items would be cheaper in France and some in the UK.

In practise, all that happened was one team went to France and bought all the stuff that seemed "French" while the other team stayed in the UK and bought everything else.

You'd think that's be the sort of task where they'd continuously be on the phone to each other saying stuff like "We've seen a tourist shop here with a child's dinghy for sale for €40. Should I buy it?" etc.”

I wondered about that as well, I was surprised neither Karren nor Claude mentioned it. Really the whole task was poorly done by both teams and the boys were just lucky they found more items, rather than their strategy being any better.

Just because she lived in France doesn't mean she spoke French, lots of British people living there don't.

Two comments regarding last night's episode:

1) Aren't they allowed to use Google or are we stuck with scenes of them endlessly thumbing through business directories?

2) Elle was in a right old flap last night.....thought she was going to have a breakdown. Why didn't she get fired for wasting £250?

Yeah it will have been - later in the series they do pop up shops in Manchester Arndale and that was before the summer, my friend was there that day and saw the real way it works, which is (i guess we all knew anyway!) they "screen" customers before they're allowed in the "shop" to look

It's been clear on these buying tasks for a few series now that they're not allowed to use Google, or the internet full stop. If they were, the episode would probably be over in about five minutes.

I think Elle escaped because even though she'd paid a lot for the boat, it was because the project manager (Vana) expressly told her to do so. And even though they paid a lot for the boat, it seemed the main reason they lost was because they didn't get some items (like the mirror), or got the wrong thing (like the wrong size of cheese) and so picked up the fines for not getting them.

I have just viewed the episode and the firing of Jenny is quite strange. Sugar just seemed to dislike her, his comments towards her as soon as the last three sat down seemed quite aggressive and as if he had already decided to fire her. Very odd firing indeed.

The problem with the skeleton was that it wasn't actually a skeleton. It was the parts to make a skeleton. If they'd assembled it and presented the finished product to the boardroom then maybe they'd have got away with it.

Although, admittedly, from Lord Sugar's rant at the time I don't think he'd have accepted even that!

I thought he was wrong to fire Jenny. There were plenty of people who didn't even feature in the episode that they could have fired for not doing enough. When the teams are as big as they are at the start I'm not sure it's fair to criticise a lack of involvement.

Besides, wasn't Jenny the one who thought to ask at a library about Leaver's Lace? It was her initiative there that got them looking for it in France instead of England. They could have missed out on the lace completely without that input!

How is Lord Sugar supposed to know that? He's not watched the programme. If he doesn't know what Jenny did on this task or the preceding ones, then that is entirely her fault. Vana made a series of catastrophic decisions that lost the task, which should have ensured her exit. Jenny has only herself to blame for not attacking Vana and defending her own record.

Given theres probably 20-30+ hours of stuff filmed from 4 different points it would be impossible for him to review all the footage in a few hours as even with fast forward he could easily miss something of importance.

I'd imagine he may get a bit of feedback from karen/claude and the production teams but a lot i'd imagine is that he wants to see how they squirm in the boardroom

There are obviously a lot of rules we do not hear.
I can never understand why they never ask the public "where can I buy?" or when one shop has no got something they do not ask for advice for another shop, assume must all be in the rules.
Sad to see intelligent (??) people following current body fashions, several of the girls have enormous unnatural lips (not nice) and many (most?) of the boys have got the facial hair thingy.
Thought Jenny was really quite grounded and natural.

Based on what he knew it was a reasonable decision. Based on what we knew it was the wrong one.

I agree Jenny didn't fight her corner enough but I think she had potential which was sadly not realised.

It is hard to tell, the way it is edited now, but it used to be more obvious Lord Sugar was using the boardroom sessions, which by all accounts could go on for hours (and look at how many candidates say afterwards how intense and draining it was) to drill down into precisely how each task was won and lost. Sadly, now the producers imagine candidates shouting makes better television.

I think I read once (someone else can probably confirm/deny) that they film something like 100 hours of footage for every episode. Okay, that includes the boardroom and scenes in the house, but even so Sugar clearly has to rely on reports from Karren and Claude (and probably the production team too, because if you think about it Claude and Karren can only see 50% of what is happening at any one time on most tasks) and whatever he can glean in the boardroom (which previous candidates have said can go on for 2-3 hours).

I have no doubt that Sugar would make different decisions sometimes if he was in possession of the full facts, or even just the edited footage that we see on TV. But bear in mind that the finished edit may well only be available a few days before transmission - I doubt he would even have access to the daily 'rushes' (much less have time to actually watch them).

As a reviewer, I get access to previews the Friday before each episode airs and even that is not the final broadcast version. I get what's called a 'picture-locked' version - the video portion of the episode is finalised but it does not necessarily have the final polished audio or incidental music, and it doesn't have Mark Halliley's narration (his script is read by someone else instead as a placeholder). The first people to see the finished episode is generally the You're Fired audience.
