For years I have watched the Birthday week epsiodes, or when a disaster happens, as in my eyes Hollyoaks does them like no other soap.

But id it worth investing in the soap, the rest of the year.. Cause all I reac about is lousy Brian Kirkwood, and the production team, low viewing figures, and calls for it to be axed.

does the show really go fron dranatic disasters, to dross. Always loved Brookside, snd what I have seen from Hollyoaks always thought it was from the same mould

No. It was fantastic a few years ago, it's utterly terrible now. Once Kirkwood goes away it might be good again but now it's really, seriously dire. I watch out of habit and because the daily threads are fun, it's not worth getting into if you're not already.

The show improved a bit, it's had some good stand alone episodes the last couple of weeks but the constant deaths need to be slowed down it too excessive imo but yes I think it worth a watch.

But I'm still of the opinion that BK needs replacing to keep the show fresh.

I think it has been improving all year, think they will lay off the deaths now for a while because they are going to aim for a community feel to the show.

I think it does issue led storylines really well and tackles them in a way other soaps don't

I haven't watched properly or even at all since Silas, until a few weeks ago and got back into it,
Quick question tho, because I haven't watched up until recently why does Diane have Tegan's child?

Two years ago I would've said go for it but I wouldn't right now, there's only so many reasons to watch but it's awful. I know there's new characters and such coming in but it won't be long before they're like every other villager, sleeping around, out of character twists etc.

This week has been good though, the OTT ness suited this week. We do occasionally get good episodes here and there but 95% of the time they're not good at all.

Sometimes it can be brilliant (not just the big eps/weeks) it can have normal characters having emotional conversations (like the recent Patrick and Peri in the office etc. They have proved over and over they have some wonderful actors who are very capable of great storylines.

Othertimes it can be terrible, such things as 10 affairs each week, 20 people dying a month etc can really let it down. I understand the show is aimed at younger people, but does nearly every story have to revolve round relationships? Believe it or not there is more to life than having sex every 10 minutes.

Overall I do really enjoy HO, and I have learnt to take it as it is, don't take it too seriously, and certainly don't compare it to the other soaps, if you do that you may just end up enjoying it.

because it's actually Dianes child, the midwife swapped the two girls at birth

then diane was trying to get custody, tegan faked the kidnapping of rose with scott, ended up in prison and Leela out of spite let Diane have custody

This ^^ I've been watching on and off since 2000 and it's the worst it's ever been in my opinion. Even worse than the Lucy Allen era. Full repetitve storylines that go round in circles, contant kidnappings, contrived love triangles that nobody cares about and very weak characters that change personality to suit whatever storyline they are involved in at the time.

Nick Pickard I remembef fron 2.4 Children. Has Alex Fletchef been the only one from Brookside who made the move to Hollyoaks.

You would have thought Phil Redmond, might hsve been able to get more from Brookside and Grange Hill involved.

Does Phil Redmond have anything to do with it these days

I remember the guy who played the oldest Murray sibling in Brookie was a fireman in oaks. Tinhead was in an Oaks spin off

I would have liked Leanne or Katie from Brookside but dont think it would work with Diane being there

The actor who played Matt Musgrove crossed over to HO in 2000 and also played the same character.I don't think Phil Redmond has had any involvement with show for a long time.

It was actually Nick's brother John, who's been in Oaks too playing Tony's brother Dom.
Greg Wood (Trevor) used to be in Brookside too.

No, he's not been involved for years. That's probably why it's crap now.

It's full of sensational twists all the time, so many that they have no lasting impact. It's like gorging yourself on the whole box of a Cadbury Milk Tray. You eventually get sick of it and crave something a bit blander.

Ben Hull also moved to Brookside from Hollyoaks. Greg Wood played that gangster who killed Emily during the 20th Anniversary,

It's a shame you missed the show's golden period between 2003-2009 those days the show was vitrually unmissable. Nowadays it's a shadow of its former self, however it has its moments although you may think it is worth investing your time into it full time.

Wow I didn't realise it was him. I've been watching quite a few old episodes of Hollyoaks recently and noticed that Greg Wood also played the friend of the Mark Gibbs who raped Luke Morgan. I also noticed that Barry Sloane was the judge in the Becca vs Justin trial before getting the part of Niall a year later.

Don't pay attention to negative posts. Most are from people who rarely watch the show. They dip into it, pick faults and post threads calling for the show to be axed. Hollyoaks for age was rarely talked about on this forum. Never had an episode thread. But now people can't help but run it down and Bryan Kirkwood.

Watch it. Make your own mind up. You might hate it you might love it.

He looked different then though. His role in Brookside was very good and if you watch 'Unfinished Business' he acted very well there too. It's amazing really how many people get these minor roles then have better ones soon after.

Oh, fair enough. I never actually watched Brookie, just knew Alex and Greg had been in it.
