I believe he also has a bias against firing the team leader. He will do it, as per the second task, but they have to screw up really badly, and/or have other problems too. (For example, Aisha did everything wrong on task,
and brought the wrong person back to the boardroom, showing she still didn't understand why she'd failed.)
That said, someone who does badly as PM without getting fired will often get fired on another task soon after. Vana's card is marked.

They spent £250 on the boat, and the men spent £10, so that was a £240 difference. The fines were only £150, so the boat was the bigger reason for failure. They lost by £316 overall, so no one item could have made a difference. (I agree with your second point, though.)
