are you kidding? you've only got to take a quick look at who wins reality tv shows to realise that as long as you're either camp or gender-confused you'll get the votes of your average reality tv viewer, probably because they're people who think it's really outrageous to like people "like that"

Punished??? For god's sake! His behaviour may have been OTT, but punished? For throwing a plate? Dear God! What "puishment" are you suggesting? Court? Prison?

Get a grip, for goodness sake!

You've got to have nerves of steel to be a commis or a KP...and protective clothing!”

well said...god have none of these people ever worked in a kitchen before! I spent loads of my "youth"working in kitchens and when I was asked if I wanted to train I said no thankyou very much I would rather join the army there is less discipline, less bad language and less violence...heehe!
great fun though and I think J-C is fab!!!!

Yeah, the chefs should also throw hot fat at people who incur their displeasure, and I bet if they did, some little mummys boy would complain about the first degree burns, what wimps!!

Ah, there's the backlash, right on time.

Violence and intimidation at work is wrong. And it's illegal. Whether on TV or not.

This is to protect people like you and me.

THAT is the real world, folks.

But this isnt the real world is it? the general consensus is that its all a load of scripted bollocks.

Not saying I condone it. I dont. I think JC might not have meant to have been so off it, but i think it was an agreed part of the show to get people talking and viewing figures up...

Got to agree with you here. The whole show is contrived. I mean c'mon, one night he's nice as ninepence and 'very' controlled, the next he's smashing stuff around the kitchen. Poor Henry.

If it was me and someone threw plates at me, I'd have retaliated big style... audience or no audience. The guy's a total a*s

so no tempers lost, no intimidation, no moments of conflict. so we're watching this programme for cooking tips and to see people pour gravy on plates. great. that would be mesmerising wouldnt' it?

and it's television and not real life.

oh and for the girl who said she was going to write a letter of complaint, you probably deserved it.

If you watch the clip back you will see that JC punched the plate toward the floor and threw his towel in the air, which pulled down a load of ladles either side of Henry, and as Henry said, he "didn't see the flying metalwork.. "

And ScreamingQueen, there is a big difference between domestic violence and workplace tantrums.. He didn't aim for Henry with anything harder than a dish cloth, it was an accident that the metal got caught by the cloth.....

OK if it's a one-off "losing your temper" kind of thing, then OK, let it drop. Nobody was hurt, move on. But if it's part of a pattern of controlling behaviour, then it's not on.

I've worked in a kitchen as a commis chef.

What Jean Christophe did was nothing.

Nothing.

Yes, people might say it's wrong, but it's not an exception. It's pretty much part of the business. The culture has been like that for years. Centuries probably.

It's what head chefs are known to do every day.

Head chefs can be much worse than that. A hell of a lot worse.
And yes, me and my mates got things thrown at us...and worse.

What could be worse than 'things' thrown at you? The food? Tell us which restaurant and quick!

Then it's about time they realised that behaving like that is unacceptable in the work place these days and brushed up on their motivational skills.

So apparently working in a kitchen condones violence, well im sorry but its all bull. I dont care how stressed or fustrated any chef gets in a kitchen, throwing plates and knifes and folks etc or anything equal to or worse than this.... is wrong and i wouldnt stand for it and why anyone else does ill never know. If you throw plates at someones head in the street or attack them in any other manner youd be locked up, why should it be allowed in the kitchen. Jean christophe is an absolute freak and i cant wait to see him lose and get the hell off our screens. Plus what would he have done if any of those had connected, im sure 'he put beef sauce on a vegetarian dish wouldnt save him'.

come back gordan all forgiven

Oh for heavens sake. It's entertainment!

Didn't Mr Ramsey's tv company in the US have to pay out loads of dosh becuase he had hurt someone? Or am I getting him confused with someone else?

Who was the person (not on a TV prog at the time) - who burned a trainee chef with a red hot spatula? They had to pay lots of money out too.

Of course violence anywhere shouldn't be condoned. But I see this as just summat on the telly! Let's face it - ITV aren't going to show someone actually hurting anyone

oh ok well if its for entertainment value... then why dont we set up a new reality show, just get a load of people in a room and throw things at them...we can call it `Violence, for your entertainment only!!'
