Doing some quick maths it works out roughly like this
Items Where Boys Won Boat - by £240 Mirror - by £152 Mussels - by £58 Cheese - by £53 Items Where Girls Won Lace - by £80 Snails - by £59 Glasses - by £40 Anchor - by £7 With the manure being a wash because they both got it for free. The mirror was a big part of the win, but the boat was by far the biggest. Vana ran the underperforming French team; Vana got the cheese spec wrong; Vana overruled the UK team on the boat. There is a theme developing here. It is tempting to say Vana remains in the process only because she took back two members of the UK team who had no idea what happened on the other side of the Channel, but it is disappointing neither Jenny nor Elle did the maths, and surprising that Lord Sugar didn't. |

Sure, but I was talking about the figures from the perspective of what the men's team did well and poorly. Gary had the biggest success, and the biggest failure was Joseph's because he allowed himself to get bilked on the lace. Of course Joseph switched the focus onto how Richard had "screwed up" the negotiation on a bit of £10 cheese, the cheapest item of the entire task, and therefore, as long as you get it, the least relevant, presumably to avoid getting more flack for being a terrible negotiator himself.

TBH, I'm not that hung up on the boat thing, it's more that I was surprised that you said Gary had made a strong contribution, as I can't remember anything else he's done over the first three episodes.

I think the girls failing to get the mirror and hence getting fined for it was a major reason why the lost the task, as if I remember right, both teams spent about the same but the girls got about £400 more in fines.
Remember that Vana panicked when there was only like an hour or so left on the task, so if they had gotten the cheap boat early on, none of that stuff late in the day would have happened (with panicky decisions). |

Richard is a pompous ass who believes his own hype. Anyone recall Lord Shugg in the first ep reading out some ghastly quote 'from a candidate's CV' along the lines of 'I clear the clouds and mists away from my client's ambitions and allow them to see the sun' and he was nodding and smiling smugly - then Lord Shugg said something like 'what a load of rubbish' and Richard's face fell about 6 feet. Made me laugh out loud. Twit.

Up to a point, Lord Copper. If the women in France had pulled their fingers out, they'd have won. On the cheese, they misunderstood the word "whole" to save a couple of Euros and cost them a fine. Not buying a mirror or the mussels (and yes, I know they handed that problem back to the UK team but really they should already have bought them) cost two more fines. If they'd bought the missing items at prices not too much more than the boys paid, they'd have won even with the boat.

They're as bad as each other in their own way.
They were correct when they said that Richard is like David Brent from The Office. He sounds like somebody who swallowed a business jargon book and regurgitates it at every opportunity. The problem is that most of them probably aren't old enough to remember Dad's Army or they'd realise Joseph is a clone of Pvt Walker. He really should be standing on a street corner with a fag hanging out of his mouth, selling "nylons" to passing women. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped..._Beck-1973.png |

I was just about to post exactly the same picture. All the time I was watching the last episode, I was expecting Corporal Jones to pop up and say 'don't panic'.

I think Richard's alright really. The team don't seem to like him, but early in that task I thought he was bringing up important and valid points.
I thought Joseph was just an arse who wanted to be alpha male and at every opportunity tried to undermine Richard by taking petty potshots at him. |
