Emmerdale boss Kate Oates: 'Ashley storyline has been planned for many months'
Both very hard hitting stories, what do you think? Can a soap handle this? John Middleton is leaving Emmerdale.

I think so, poor Ashley ain't half been through a lot in recent years. There was a time he was no more than a secondary character who hung around offering advice to everyone...

What a shame and so soon after Charlie Hardwick aka Val Pollard.

You could have left the EXIT part out of the title of the thread, that is a huge spoiler right there.

At least he won't be going until 'the end of next year', according to Sh*tesquawk.

And that excuses you putting a massive spoiler in your thread title how? |

Actors leaving isn't generally seen as a spoiler.

It's still a spoiler though!
The actor may have 14 odd months left on his contract. |

Maybe avoid the forums then?
Should I avoid going out in case a stranger shouts a spoiler at me from across the street? Should I stay in my bedroom in case the window cleaner decided to tell me the latest spoilers? Don't be ridiculous, and take responsibility for your own bloody mistakes. I don't mind spoilers, but some people don't want to know. Respect that. |

I don't see why not, it's as big a spoiler as any other i think. It means that you know that the character they are playing is either going to die or move away.
We've seen soaps trail "Who Killed ...?" storylines before any exit has happened. Is that a spoiler too? |

I know exits aren't spoilers, but I do wish the soaps wouldn't announce who was leaving and when etc it takes away the suspense. I never get invested in their storylines once the announcement is made.

Soap exits are publicly announced by the soap all the time. Those type of announcements are generally not written in tags on the forum. I can't remember any outrage over this before and loads of exits have been discussed openly here.

Was it not obvious he would be leaving? His character is about to be diagnosed with dementia.
